“Dear PoPville,

I have a question I thought you might be able to help with. I bought a sweater last fall from a guy in the outdoor portion of Eastern Market who sold mostly vintage/dad-style sweaters and shirts. It ended up being my favorite sweater and I’d love to get another but I haven’t been able to find him since (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I have a rooftop deck furniture question. I’m specifically interested in ideas for low-maintenance furniture that won’t blow away in a storm. My condo building is small (18 units, no doorman, offsite building mgr) and finally going to build a rooftop deck. I think we are unlikely to get volunteers to bring things in or fasten them down every time there is a storm. So I’m wondering if we can we get furniture that is heavy enough not to have to worry about it, or some way of fastening them permanently (which is less desirable for chairs around a table). Any creative suggestions from your readers would be much appreciated!”

Susanna asks:

“it’s been a while since we’ve discussed gyms. I know the big players are open, but any idea which smaller studios have opened back up (cycling classes, barre studios, other boutique classes)? Would love to know what is open/what’s permanently closed”

Some initial responses: (more…)

She semi-nervously asked me, “Can I register to vote today? I just became a citizen today.” She had literally come from the ceremony to the polling place. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m sure you’re aware of the predatory speed camera on Kenilworth Ave. that catches essentially everyone taking the Benning Rd. exit off of the Anacostia Freeway.

After my wife and I both got tickets here in quick succession, and I did an analysis and was able to get them both dismissed by arguing that the camera’s location relative to the speed limit sign is unsafe.

I’m sending you the argument I used, along with supporting docs, as I think this could be useful (more…)

Claire asks: “Any idea what this unidentified floating object is? Spotted from 9th and D NE just now. Hard to tell where it’s tethered, but maybe H and 5th or 6th?”

This is the famed imaging balloon of course! Our last sighting was September 2020. In March of 2020 we got to see the great view from up there.

Elliot also sent a shot earlier from H Street, NE: (more…)
