“Dear PoPville,

We have been dealing with DCRA since fall 2019 to resolve an issue with a developer who has enclosed his parking pad which is the corner of the alley, forcing us and all our neighbors to now encroached onto the property on the other side of the alley.

DCRA has been useless and unresponsive and they are bow saying that they are not aware of our issue. We have been exchanging emails with several offices at DCRA and they have responded to us. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I started researching fancy delivery options for an upcoming birthday, and all the listicles I’ve found about delivery during the pandemic are from last spring and summer. A lot of restaurants have adapted since then. I would love to hear recommendations on fancy pre-fix menu meals that deliver in the DC area.”

and Tom asks: “DC friends! I have ~5 weeks left in the city and a lot of restaurants I haven’t tried. pls send your favorite must-eat places / meals before I move

Some early responses to the latter: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am a independent DMV hairstylist, making home visits since 2016, whose business was literally crushed during COVID. I am going to be building from the ground up again this year. I currently do not have my own vehicle, needed to safely get to and from work. I am diabetic and have asthma, have 2 young ones with asthma and have a elderly parent with cardiac complications on dialysis, who I only get to see 1x per week, but still need to protect by keeping myself away from exposure.

Here is a link to my GoFundMe for you to read more.”

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea when the fencing will come down?”

From Deputy Mayor John J. Falcicchio Wednesday:

“We are told that breakdown will start in earnest at 6 pm and will likely take about 36 hours.

That aligns with the end of the Inauguration Pause on indoor dining which is set to expire on Friday, January 22, at 5 am. Restaurants will then be able to return to 25% indoor. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I need your help in organizing something to greet Joe Biden and Kamala Harris and say good-bye and good riddance to You Know Who and his band of fascists.

For the first time in almost a year because of COVID-19 and in four years because of Trump, I feel like I climbing out of a deep, dark hole. I feel like I have been silenced, even though I have been shouting, stilled even though I have been acting.

No more.

We may not be able to go into the streets, but we can make ourselves heard. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I lost my sister on Friday…

I am looking for an outdoor space to have a memorial service which would accommodate 30-35 people for no more than 1.5 hours. Due to Covid we are not interested in food or beverages. Please let us know if you are aware of an outdoor space that may accommodate this event.”

“Dear PoPville,

Since the attack at the Capitol Building, 5 local Black-owned restaurants have been working tirelessly to provide meals for our unhoused neighbors throughout DC. In partnership with local grassroots mutual aid group @fueltheppl, Open Crumb, Taste of Jamaica, Heat da Spot Cafe, Chez Dior and Po Boy Jim have made over 1,100 meals for the community to support unhoused DC residents that have been impacted and/or displaced by the current state of emergency in DC. “Dear PoPville,

Since the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines, I’ve noticed increasing numbers of people walking around without masks. Today, a maskless woman stood within 6 inches of me while talking. When I said something to her, she replied, “I’m vaccinated.” I politely told her that being vaccinated doesn’t mean she shouldn’t still wear a mask. She insisted I was wrong and called me illiterate. Insult aside, I think she honestly believed that she was correct. (more…)

“Dear Popville,

I wondered if your readers could crowd source pop-up merch vendors for inaugural memorabilia – tshirts, flags etc – with all of downtown closed they are hard to find – saw one at 17th and Q NW yesterday but would love to see others!”

Linds sent one super cool option: (more…)
