“Best fancy delivery” and Must Try Restaurants Before Leaving the District

“Dear PoPville,

I started researching fancy delivery options for an upcoming birthday, and all the listicles I’ve found about delivery during the pandemic are from last spring and summer. A lot of restaurants have adapted since then. I would love to hear recommendations on fancy pre-fix menu meals that deliver in the DC area.”

and Tom asks: “DC friends! I have ~5 weeks left in the city and a lot of restaurants I haven’t tried. pls send your favorite must-eat places / meals before I move

Some early responses to the latter:

Bad Saint. It is a truly unique, delicious restaurant, and should not be missed if possible. Maketto for the fried chicken.

I always recommend Estadio to visitors too, but I can’t say I know how well that translates in these can’t-actually-eat-in-the-restaurant times.”

“Number 1 favorite place is @fioladc, tasting menu for the win and a bourbon Manhattan is a must. Best one I’ve had in my life. Expensive but worth it. @EtVoilaDc is amazing, there I always have the foie gras, cassoulet & floating island. @zaytinya by @chefjoseandres a must!”

Shouk for amazing “modern Israeli street food”!! DELICIOUS.”

Rasika for Indian food. Awesome!”

“Both are small quick services places, but I’d second the vote for Greek Deli (https://greekdelidc.com) and check out @PretzelBakery on the Hill.”

“Either of the gnocchi dishes at Floriana, anything from Supra and El Sol, and pizza from Puppatella (my favourite is the pesto)”

“Bull in the Pan, Annie’s Paramount Steak House, 17th street.”

Compass Rose

Crisp and Juicy in Tenleytown! Peruvian rotisserie chicken with amazing sauces”

“- The burger at Salt Line in Navy Yard

– Karaagedon from Donburi in AdMo

– Literally *anything* from Immigrant Food on Pennsylvania”

“Gotta get @thipkhaoDC! They also have some great takeout cocktails”

“I cannot recommend “The Ministry” enough – coffee shop/wine bar (more so the former than the latter during COVID) near Union Station with excellent breakfast and lunch options — really good & unique French toast, baked oatmeal, pastries, and dishes like “poached pear toast.”

Laos in Town!!! Amazing food. Indigo is basically next door for good Indian.”

Florida Ave Grill, Laligura’s for Indian/Nepali (they have a location in Van Ness and one in Glover Park), and Bub and Pop’s!”

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
