“Dear PoPville,

How can we accommodate our tenant, who is being driven out of his mind by the loud construction noise in the rowhouse next door?

Backstory: The rowhouse next to us is under intensive renovation – completely gutted, popped back, the whole works. All construction seems to be legally permitted; we’ve been in communication with the owner (a developer who won’t be living in the finished house), and we don’t really have any issue with the work per se. The problem is the noise.

We have a tenant in our basement apartment who is really suffering. There are times when the drilling/pounding next door turns his apartment into a sounding board, with the noise in his space reaching over 100db (according to a phone app). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I used to get the best haircuts from Billy at Parlour Salon on U Street. He is the only hairdresser who made my hair look good curly, straight, and even as it grew out. At some point while I was away from DC for grad school in 2015-2017, he left Parlour. I haven’t been able to find him, and I haven’t gotten an equally good haircut in years. Can the DC hivemind help? Anyone from the readership know where he is working?”

Ed. Note: If any of these are you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

“Dear PoPville,

I (man in his mid-20s) had a missed connection at the outdoor seating at Tatte bakery and cafe on Connecticut Ave on Tue, April 20 in the afternoon. There was a girl who was wearing a sheer blue top and had dyed part of her hair green and who looked to be studying. We were making a fair amount of eye-contact and I thought I caught her smile at me at one point, but she left before I could muster up the courage to say something. I was wearing a blue denim shirt over a colorful tee and was working on a laptop.

I would love to get coffee at Tatte or just about anywhere else if you’re free.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping I’d find something about current vaccine availability (or lack thereof) in D.C., as I pre-registered with the D.C. government many weeks ago and I still haven’t heard anything from them since the April 12 public availability date. I’m not seeing much in local news stories either, so I’m wondering if it’s just me. Are you hearing anything about people actually getting scheduled for appointments in the last week?

For those who’ve gotten vaccinated – did you get it through the DC registration portal or other ways like the one below?

Another reader passes on from their Federal office: “Thursday and Friday of this week, you can obtain a COVID-19 vaccination with no appt needed/walk-up at the Museum of Natural History on 10th and Constitution Ave. This opportunity applies to all federal employees and contractors.

UPDATE from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: “This site provides COVID-19 vaccinations to federal essential critical infrastructure workers whose job responsibilities put them at greater risk from the pandemic.

Agencies identified employees as essential critical infrastructure workers eligible to receive a vaccine at this time based on job duties and CISA’s Guidance on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce: Ensuring Community and National Resilience in COVID-19 Response.

Other civilian Federal employees should make an appointment to receive their vaccinations in their state or local jurisdictions as eligibility has expanded to all Americans 16+ as of Monday!”

“Dear PoPville,

What’s the best way of keeping up with basic row house yard maintenance? My partner and I moved from an apartment to a row house with a postage stamp-sized front yard last winter. The grass is finally growing again–and it’s growing fast. How do most folks in basic row houses keep up with basic, no frills lawn maintenance? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I got a parking ticket on my motorcycle a few days ago. I guess I must have missed one of those temporary No Parking signs people put up. I found the bike knocked over along with this note.

I’d just like to say a couple of things to my mystery neighbor:

1. I’m sorry about your kid’s birthday party, I really am. I have no idea how leaving my bike parked there ruined it, but as a parent myself, I understand your frustration.

2. I work in the emergency department and I have two young children. I’m pretty busy, so sometimes I don’t check on my bike for a few days at a time. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My question is: Is it a restaurant’s responsibility to manage unwanted harassment of guests at patio tables? I’m asking because I was out with a group of four girlfriends and a man who was clearly under the influence kept coming to our table to try and talk to us. First over the restaurant’s patio barrier and eventually he walked right into the patio to hover over our table. We were friendly and polite the first 5 times (despite pretty lewd comments and gestures) and I got a bit more firm in asking him not to come over anymore the next few times. (more…)

1746 Lanier Place, NW

For those not familiar: “Adam’s Inn, a Victorian B&B spanning three 100-year old buildings on a quiet residential street, has been a “home away from home” for international and budget-conscious travelers for 20 years.”

Thanks to all who messaged about Adams Inn closing: “Saw this sign this morning, little sign says Closed 2021. Will miss their crazy Halloween displays!” (more…)
