“Dear PoPville,
I was wondering if you could start a thread regarding mask-wearing outside. I saw the CDC said it was OK to be outside without a mask, but when I walked around yesterday, I saw most people wearing a mask. I’m fully vaccinated and feel comfortable but also don’t want to be “that guy.”
So, for those fully vaccinated (2 weeks post 2nd dose or J&J) do you feel comfortable walking around now outside without a mask?

“Dear PoPville,
Missed connection request! Hi, there was a really handsome guy at the Columbia heights metro this morning. You were wearing a blue suit and have reddish/strawberry blonde hair. I was wearing a UCSD tee shirt and my scrub pants. Our eyes kept meeting, and I should have said hi. If you see this and are interested, let’s get coffee.”
Ed. Note: If any of these are you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

“Dear PoPville,
Hi neighbors! This will be my first experience with the influx of cicadas and wanted to hear any advice on prepping my garden? I completely redid my front yard 6 months ago (including new tree/shrubs/flowers) and heard while they do not eat plants, they can still destroy them.
A majority of us have cleaned up our yards with the new season and was wondering if anyone put netting on new plants in preparation? Some gardening sites have said to do so.”

“Dear PoPville,
My wife really loves fresh made mozzarella. Does PoPville know if anyone makes it in the DC area?”
I’d start with Salumeria in Brookland and NoMa. Where else?

“Dear PoPville,
Snake skin on 10th St. NW between M and N. What is happening!?!”
Not sure if related but the month of May is definitely the start of snakes falling out of trees season:

“Dear PoPville,
I was skeptical about ordering wings from a bookstore. But my palette has never been happier to have my intuition be proven wrong.
Fedwings is tucked in the kitchen section of Kramer’s Bookstore in Dupont Circle. I ordered the medium wing combo–my only regret is that I didn’t order the large. Not because it wasn’t enough food, because it certainly was. These wings–my lord, these wings–I’ll be dreaming about for years to come. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I could use the collective architectural savvy of the commentariat. We have a fairly typical end-unit brick rowhouse, approximately 1,000 sqft above grade. We need to get the brick tuck-pointed/repaired on two sides (the rear was done shortly before we moved in). This seems straightforward, but we’ve been having a fair bit of trouble.
There are two main issues and associated questions for the hivemind: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I was hoping other Popinistas could give me feedback on rooftop decks. My wife and I are in the beginning stages of a whole-house remodel. We are going to lose the space in our backyard that I currently use for vegetable gardening. We were considering relocating the vegetable plots to a rooftop deck; it would also be a nice space to have for relaxing and eating.
Our architect, however, has warned us that rooftop decks get too warm for growing crops. (more…)
