“Dear PoPville

I cleaned out my closet this weekend and found so many clothes I no longer want, many of which still have the tags on them (I know, I know…). Everything is either brand new or in great condition. All women’s clothes, mostly dresses and casual attire. Can anyone recommend a great donation place in NW DC where these clothes can find a good home? Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m really struggling to decide if I am in a position to buy a condo in DC right now and would greatly appreciate hearing the thoughts of your readers.

A little bit of context: I moved to DC straight out of grad school in 2008 and had been living in group houses (some great, some not so great) until 2018 when I paid off my student loans and with freeing up a bit of monthly income, I got myself my first ever apartment (tiny studio in Dupont). I work in the environmental nonprofit field and make a decent salary for the field, but it’s been hard to save since DC is so expensive. I’ve lived in Petworth, Shaw, Columbia Heights and now Dupont and would be interested in NE as well (H St or Capitol Hill) and since biking is my preferred transportation I would love something a short (2-3 miles) bike ride to my office in McPherson Square (when we re-open by the end of this year).

I am pre-approved (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

A friend of mine and I were chatting about a relic of the pre-COVID days – casually dining out as a single person.

We both are fans of a casual dinner at a bar with a book or some people watching. As a solo diner you don’t always want to commit to taking a whole table for yourself, but sometimes you just need a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine and takeout won’t cut it. I gave up the practice during the pandemic of course, but now am itching to get out of the house. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

DC’s list of low risk states hasn’t been updated since May 2, and therefore doesn’t include some states that meet the criteria. I would like to travel with my family to New Jersey, where the average cases per 100,000 is currently at 5, but New Jersey isn’t on the list of low risk states, which means that when I return, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I (man in his mid-20s) had a missed connection at the outdoor seating at Tatte bakery and cafe on Connecticut Ave on Tue, May 18 in the afternoon. There was a girl who was wearing a white top, blue jeans and had a black backpack, sitting with her friend and chatting. We were making a ton of eye contact and I was getting a positive vibe, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

As you likely know, starting Friday, May 21, there are no longer supposed to be capacity restrictions at most places, including pools! However, DC pools are still including a reservation system that fills up quickly (I have only had success at 9am once)! I tried today for next week with no luck, before realizing that reservations shouldn’t even be needed for next Monday! Do you know if they will continue requiring reservations or if they just haven’t taken down the system yet?”
