“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to warn the Shaw & Truxton Circle neighborhood about possible rat poison left out on the public sidewalk. The substance has the bright green color of common rat poisons that are also lethal to dogs, cats, and wildlife.

This is especially important for dog owners and walkers in the area. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Walking out of Target, I experienced irony, protest, and hipster passive-agressiveness embodied in the Gospel of Hulkamania, circa Wrestlemania 5, in which the meek inherit an Atomic Leg Drop.

Confused, nostalgic, and slightly anxious, I wandered through the sounds of Hulk Hogan giving whatfor to that erstwhile scallywag Randy (the Machoman) Savage!? Such bold claims! Such intrusive bravado!! I was caught between inspiration and despair. First, the manically amplified street preacher, now this? What more must Columbia Heights endure? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We hope you can call attention to the increasingly compromised infrastructure at Marie Reed Aquatics Center in Adams Morgan where the showers have been barely functional since the spring of this year. Currently there are only four functioning showers of 11: two each in the women’s and men’s changing rooms (of five in each). The shower in the family / independent accessible shower is also not functioning properly (the water is not heated). In the women’s room two showers have hot water, one additional shower has running water but it is cold. Two others do not function at all- last winter one started running continuously, it could not be turned off, and instead of being fixed the water in it and the adjacent shower was turned off completely. In the men’s room, we understand that the water in two showers is functional and the hot water works and in three the water is not functional.

Of note, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Any word on Miss Deb, the caring crossing guard at Stoddert Elementary School? Heard she was hit by a car! Heard she will be OK, but recovering. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am desperately looking to see if anyone in DC can help me find my son’s bag— he lost his beloved stitch bag somewhere either on the 400 block of 11th St NE or by the Kennedy Center. He’s totally heartbroken. There was money in it (don’t care about recovering that back), but what is really most special is the actual purse and inside the plain black wallet that was a gift given to him. Is there any way you can help?”

If you spot it/have tips please email me at [email protected] and I’ll pass on to OP.
