“Dear PoPville,

Our Adams Morgan condo has been without power since Saturday afternoon–we have lights and a few outlets, but one of the two incoming lines is dead and as a result, we are without heat and hot water.

We had an electrician on-site on Saturday–he told us to call Pepco. Pepco came out, took some readings, and told us to get our building electrician involved. That electrician came out yesterday and said they couldn’t do anything until Pepco removed the locks on our meter and the three meters connected to ours (it’s a medium-sized, self-managed condo building). “Dear PoPville,

It is tax season and this year, I think I might need a professional instead of using TurboTax due to some life changes. Can you poll readers to see if they have an accountant or someone they like or suggest that is reasonably affordable? Thanks.”

“Dear PoPville,

My six year old daughter just returned to school last Monday following a ten day quarantine after testing positive for covid on January 13. Then, on Friday January 28 she was included in her school’s asymptomatic testing program and her result remains positive, a fairly common occurrence. Testing kids within 90 days of prior infection is against DC health guidelines, but I’m told she “fell through the cracks” and was tested when she shouldn’t have been. Now DC Health is insisting that we keep her home for another ten days. This goes against all levels of covid guidelines, both local and federal. PCR tests can come back positive for months after infection. It’s the exact reason why DC advises against re-testing kids within 90 days after infection. And yet DC Health is treating this as if it were a new infection, which would be impossible so soon after a prior infection. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Writing to send out some thanks into the world to a bicyclist who helped un-strand me from Adams Morgan Sunday morning! Something about the cold made my bike lock jam while I was out and about Saturday night, and upon returning to try to rescue it on Sunday morning I still couldn’t get the lock to budge, after which my phone promptly died. “Dear PoPville,

Missed connection! I met a guy hiking with his dad at Annapolis Rock in Maryland last Sunday afternoon (January 23rd). He was on the taller side, with reddish/brown hair and beard. He mentioned he lives in Capitol Hill and he took some great photos of my friend and me in front of the view. I was the Asian woman wearing a tan furry jacket and a grey hat with a yellow pom-pom. He and his dad very kindly offered to drive us back to our car since it was getting late and the trail was iced over. I probably should’ve taken them up on their offer and/or asked for his number but, after two years of the pandemic, I don’t remember how to meet people in the wild (literally) anymore! Would be great to grab coffee sometime.”

“Not sure if this counts as a missed connection but I (sorta) met a very cute guy at Hook Hall wine festival last Saturday. (more…)

“Dear PoPville, [thanks to all who sent]

An incredibly sad closing of another small women owned business. This one hits hard as it was conceptualized, opened and run by two moms who happened to also be super funny. The timing was not great – I literally have pics of my son enjoying the ballpit a week before lockdown – but they tried their creative best to offer what they could and really try and help their/our community. Camps, tutoring, safety measures, outdoor yoga, partnerships with local food and breweries. This is a visceral sadness and disappointment – and I hope we as a city can really all recover together.

“Dear PoPville,

A really nice woman who works at the Adams Morgan 7-11 fell victim to a car-jacking Monday night/Tuesday morning.

Her car was parked in front of the store at 2am. The car jackers didn’t know how to drive stick, abandoned the car and peeled out in the getaway car, not before side swiping her car, mangling the wheel well, shattering her window and rendering her car inoperable. As she told me she is “underinsured.” Meaning she’s paying for liability only.

Impossible to share insurance information with a car-jacker. (more…)
