“Dear PoPville,

In short, I am wondering how a neighbor’s treatment of a dog would be viewed under the Standard of Care for Animals Amendment Act of 2017. It’s been in the 30s all week, and I have repeatedly noted the neighbors leaving their dog out on their balcony all alone. I know – or at least I think – that they let the dog in at night, but for the most part the dog is out there for at least an hour or more, when it’s out. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to say thank you to the kind strangers that helped corral my dog Remi after my grip slipped on his leash at the intersection of New Hampshire & Rock Creek Church Rd NW. Several motorists and pedestrians helped in the pursuit that ultimately resulted in the pup running home and sitting on the porch. I didn’t catch anyone’s name as I was in hot pursuit of the pup (on a very cold night), but I grateful for their help.”

We currently rent a townhouse in DC that is a bit of a fixer upper. We are considering making an offer to buy from our landlord, but want to get a ballpark understanding of how much it would realistically cost us to renovate, and we want to factor that into our decision and potential offer. Does anyone have any recommendations for an inspector or a contractor that could do this for us? We have both structural and safety (e.g. potential mold) concerns and remodel questions. (more…)

“Our stolen car isn’t the worst of it”

As if getting our car stolen off the street in front of our house in the dead of night on Monday wasn’t enough, we are grappling with the loss of our beloved quote book that holds all of our family’s “best of” roadtrip memories from the last 18 years.
