“ISO – stone mason for historic rowhouse repair”

“Dear PoPville,

We are replacing the windows (not original) on our historic Eastern Market rowhouse this spring, and I am ISO of a mason to repair at the same time a vertical crack in the brick wall of the house that extends through two of the window openings.

The crack in the masonry we have runs the entire height of the alley wall of our house and has been previously repaired (and unfortunately the brick is stuccoed over) and the fill material (some sort of silicone-based or other semi-soft putty) is pulling away. It is not a large project but does require a competent professional able to work with historic brick and stone (sills).

When we signed the contract for the window project last spring, we consulted with a mason who provided a very reasonable quote. However, due to COVID-related permitting and production delays, the windows could not be installed until this spring. The mason we had contacted previously has not been returning my calls, and I’m now ISO a recommendation for another professional in the area.

Thanks for your help!”
