“Dear PoPville,
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to find out who/what your address is being used for in DC? I ask because my husband and I bought our home 2+ years ago in NE DC. We’re used to getting mail for old tenants, but we’re pretty sure the former owners and their kids/grandkids are still using our address for residency, schools, etc. Has anyone ever dealt with something similar or have advice?”

“Dear PoPville,
It would be great to know if anyone has tried any service within the region for scanning old family photos? It seems like there are a lot of options online, but I’m nervous to mail priceless photos that could get lost or damaged. Any feedback would be appreciated!”

“Dear PoPville,
I’ve noticed more “missing cats” signs posted on lampposts lately. I might suggest that DC newbies and students be aware that Rock Creek Park is very intertwined with our neighborhoods, and when you notice those cute bunnies in the early mornings and evenings in your blocks, there are also those beautiful foxes seeking them out … as well as for your cats. Beware, bring in your pets at night.”

8th and Rhode Island Ave, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I wanted to pulse the Shaw and DC community on any improvement they’ve seen from the newly installed crosswalk lights at 8th and Rhode Island NW. Cars are still blowing through the crossing lane even when crosswalk alert lights are illuminated. Also, DC installed the press mechanism for the alert lights so far from the crosswalk for the lights, that the lights are rarely used. Is there a way for DC to fix this issue?” Here’s a video: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Does the community know where I can get a household fire extinguisher refilled/recharged? Can’t seems to find out online if DC local fire departments do it or not.”

“Dear PoPville,
I own a condo in a 9 unit condo building in DC. The building was built in 2018 by a developer who turned out to be pretty shady, and we’ve discovered a series of escalating issues with the construction. The owners who face one side of the building have had water damage during heavy rainstorms since early on; we got the full amount of the structural defect warranty money placed in bond with the city by the developer (~$50K) to partially re-side that part of the building and do some other work to fix issues with the initial construction.
Now, partway through that project, after the contractor we hired came back with a new, much higher estimate for the original scope of work — we’ve discovered that we most likely need to re-side the entire building, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I am curious to know how others have dealt with this: I live in a RPP zone of Mount Pleasant and have always had a IRL paper visitor permit. I have also used the app twice to get digital permits with no trouble. My current house sitter, who is visiting from AL, is registered via the Park DC Permits app, but in the last week she has twice gotten parking tickets, from the same officer. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
So my partner and I were on a (very) long walk this morning from Pleasant Plains to Kalorama and back when we stopped to admire this bag of dog poo placed neatly on the windshield of a BMW. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Marie Reed pool locker room thefts PSA
I had the unfortunate experience of having the lock clipped from a locker at Marie Reed while I was swimming in the pool monday afternoon. My wallet and phone was stolen – luckily not some other items that happened to not be in my pants pockets. The staff told me this had happened before and (more…)
