“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering if there’s a resource that pulls together the many ways to support DC right now, not just a single calendar or organizing guide, but something broader for both people here and allies. I’ve seen lots of really helpful one off resources and awesome orgs, but I haven’t found one place that packages things together in a way I could share as a one stop shop for say, my mom.

I’m picturing (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Ran across a very DC problem. I need insurance on my car, and the quote asks if I park in a garage. Like many DCers, my backyard fence has a garage door on it, with alley access. There’s no roof to make it a full garage, but obviously no accidental or intentional harm can come to the car once I park it in my backyard behind the garage door.

Would others say this counts as parking in a garage?”

“Dear PoPville,

Since President Trump federalized the DC police and brought in other law enforcement agencies, he has been hoping for screen-grabbing protests to justify his decision. Residents need to ignore the bait.

Donald J. Trump is a champion of distraction. He cannot stomach bad headlines. So when events are not swinging in his direction, he seeks to change the narrative and blame something else. Epstein files? Claim a criminal conspiracy by Barack Obama. Job numbers not good? The reporting bureau is corrupt and full of leftists.

The decision to federalize Washington D.C.’s police may be just one more choice ‘don’t look here, look over there’, or it may be a vengeful response to one of his DOGE employees being victim of an attempted car jacking in one of the city’s safest neighborhoods. Whatever the reason, Trump’s decision to put additional federal officers on the streets of D.C. stands in the face of all evidence that D.C is the safest it has been for years. The decision was controversial but, as hoped by the White House, it consumed national attention.

President Trump would now like nothing more than images of violent protests to justify his bravery in saving a lawless and corrupt city. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

There’s a BMW X5 M series at the BMW service center. It has a US Government official use only plate with a “S” designation for Department of State.

Given the administrations / DOGEs at times aggressive effort to reduce agency spending paid for by the taxpayer, I’m curious to understand how a performance luxury SUV is a justified cost. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was eating dinner outside Union Market tonight (Saturday) at the busy dinner hour and two people rolled through on bikes yelling “checkpoint!” at one point, just after a few cop cars had rolled by. Understandably, many people were shook and I saw several folks pack up and leave quickly. The problem was, (more…)

“from a checkpoint on M St SW in Friday about 6:30pm. There were about 30 federal agents and a few MPD. They were stopping all cars and checking IDs and taking down license plate numbers. It was a high traffic time because there was a baseball game and a soccer game happening tonight.”

“Dear PoPville,

With the closure of Montgomery Hills Car Wash (RIP to Moco’s finest) we have no idea where to take our car for a full service car wash. I’m specifically looking for an interior vacuum and exterior wash in the $20-$40 range – I don’t need detailing, I do need some dog hair removal, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

It’s bad enough we are all in 5 days a week, but now our commute times have increased drastically. Below is what I sent to WMATA. Anyone else impacted is encouraged to reuse the content to advocate for more efficient shuttle services!

###
I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction and concern regarding the current shuttle bus plan for the Green Line shutdown, which is scheduled from August 2nd to August 31st. As a federal employee who relies on the Green Line to commute to the Suitland Federal Center, the designated shuttle service is inadequate and has created a significant and unnecessary hardship for hundreds, if not thousands, of employees. “Dear PoPville,

Just a heads up for the community. “Nordic Energy” has representatives out in Columbia Heights/Park View knocking on doors, claiming that folks on my street have complained about utility costs, and were pretty insistent on seeing our Pepco and Washington Gas accounts. (more…)
