“Dear PoPville,

I’m reaching out to see if anyone has experience or ideas for dealing with Pepco when they’re unresponsive, and if other readers have encountered this.

Our row house has been without power since July 1. Multiple electricians have tried—and failed—to locate the issue, only for Pepco to eventually come out and confirm that the problem was on their end: a faulty meter box that needs replacing. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This storage container has been parked on 15th st for years. I pass it everyday thinking how is somebody managing to keep it parked there, taking up public space? It must be that it’s inconspicuous enough to be ignored. Don’t you need a permit for these? (between R & S St NW)”

How does this normally work, you need a permit for one of these things? Anyone know how frequently they need to be renewed/can be issued for?

“Dear PoPville,

So, at the risk of sounding like a prude I have to ask: What’s with all the dispensaries? Every other storefront that opens is a CBD and pot dispensary. Fine, the traffic at the Takoma store is always crazy, super well staffed and they do brisk business. What about the others? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We’ve had a condo board transition at my building, and have discovered that our condo association has apparently never filed taxes. A quick internet search tells me that this is a common mistake – people assume they don’t have to but in fact we do. We have no idea how to go about doing things with back years and all that, so we’re looking for a CPA/accountant who has experience with condo associations in the DMV area. Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

I am hoping you can help me source our community to find out if any of the DC dog parks have pools or sprinkles in the dog park area. They are such an easy way for the dogs to cool off in this heat and my dog LOVES them!  See photo from a few years ago in Dupont (this sadly broke last summer). (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My birthday is in mid-September, and in the decade+ I’ve lived in DC, I’ve always followed this rule that I should have my Thanksgiving and Christmas Amtrak tickets home to New York purchased before my birthday in order to secure a good price.

In recent years for Thanksgiving, for example, I’ve departed the day before the holiday and come back to DC over the weekend. Since the pandemic, I’ve paid $120-150 for roundtrip coach tickets (though one year, I got a steal with $58 roundtrip tickets from a promotional sale).

I just took a look at the website and a one-way ticket is a whopping $286 for any time slot– and this is well earlier than the time I usually look for tickets. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Driving to work this morning, a bikeshare rider swerved out in front of me so I lightly beeped my horn. Not aggressively but to give a warning as I had the space to drive around him in the other lane. He proceeded to film me and aggressively blocked my progress between the intersection of P St NW and the Rock Creek offramp (Georgetown) and P and 23rd. I didn’t engage and stayed calm although very unsettling. Is this the new norm? (more…)
