Thanks to Mike for sending word about Culture Coffee. Back in March we thought they were opening a 2nd location in Fort Totten Square. Turns out they’re moving there. From their website:

“*****ANNOUNCEMENT: The Kennedy Street location is officially closed. Visit us at our new location 300 Riggs Rd. in September of 2017.*****”

Sweet. From Conte’s website:

“We are excited to announce that we will be opening a new Conte’s Bike Shop location in partnership with Giant Bicycles on Wisconsin Ave in Washington DC later this year. For years, we have proudly carried the Giant product line in all of our stores making this partnership a wonderful opportunity for our company and Giant. We invite you to visit our new store later this year.”

They’ll be located right next door to The Silver Brasserie opening this August.

826 Upshur Street, NW

Thanks to Mark for sending:

“I asked inside if the lease had increased beyond what they could afford and the woman behind the counter said, “no, they’re going to build condos”. So I’m guessing a couple of things: owner of the building sold and the ubiquitous four up and several back glassed front rectangle will be built in the nicely developing business strip on Upshur. Shame as there doesn’t appear to be another decent dry cleaner in Petworth, the one on Georgia near Safeway getting 1.5 stars and bad bad reviews. And Upshur has been developing a very nice strip of small local shops and good restaurants.”

Anyone else hear development plans?

When I lived in Petworth I had a love/hate relationship with Kilroy’s but in the end they won me over. They will be missed. Now the day Philip’s Shoe Repair closes is the day I and many others will truly weep. May it be many moons from today. Baruch Ha’shem.

8th and Florida Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I walked by The Shay today and saw that signs have gone up for Argent – a workwear store for women – in the former Kit & Ace space. They’ve already opened a pop-up shop around the corner on 9th above Ride. Glad to see the space won’t be sitting empty for long.”

Thanks to a reader for sending from Publishers Weekly:

“Washington, D.C.-based indie Politics and Prose Bookstore has announced plans to open a second location at Union Market, a food and artisan hub located in the capital’s northeast district. The store is set to open this fall in an area next to the market’s existing indoor hall.”
