Nando’s Peri Peri Wins Fight to Come to Woodley Park

“The D.C. Board of Zoning Adjustment voted 3-0 Tuesday to adjust its ruling in such a way that would allow Nando’s to go ahead with its proposed 2631 Connecticut Ave. NW location, in a former Bank of America branch just across from the Woodley Park Metro station.”

From Nando’s:

“We have been so persistent with this restaurant because we knew we had such strong support behind us, from our landlord to the amazing members of the Woodley Park community. Now comes the fun part, building a beautifully bespoke restaurant in Woodley Park to share our PERi-PERi chicken with even more Nando’s fans in D.C.”

Line Already Forming for Chick Fil A Opening Tomorrow in Columbia Heights

“Ten years after Chick-fil-A® opened its first licensee location in Washington, D.C., on the campus of Catholic University, the chain is continuing its expansion into the heart of D.C. The new restaurant in the DC USA Complex will open Nov. 4, bringing 100 new jobs, the chance for 100 adults to win free Chick-fil-A meals for a year and the opportunity for community members to donate books that will benefit a local community organization.

After 12 years and more than $25 million in free food given away, Chick-fil-A’s “First 100” celebration continues to be the chain’s signature grand opening event, which transforms the restaurant grounds lot into a 24-hour community friendly party as the crowd awaits the opening. (more…)

DC Coast Closing on K Street at the end of the year

EaterDC reports the “restaurant’s last day of business will be New Year’s Eve”:

“It’s been a long road for D.C. Coast, which opened back in June of 1998. At the time, K Street was a very different place. “At nine o’clock, it would be prostitutes everywhere; they just came out of the woodwork,” he said. He remembers a time when partner Gus DeMillo chased a group of working ladies down the street, brandishing a giant pepper mill.”

They also note the return of TenPenh (the old space is now the recently opened Tadich Grill) to the hinterland:

“The company will bring back its pan-Asian restaurant, which closed in 2011, in a new format, this time in Tysons Corner.”

The Drive-thru Burger King Robbed at Gunpoint this Weekend is becoming a Chick Fil A

From the files of incredibly random timing – that Burger King that was just robbed via the drive-thru is becoming a Chick Fil A! Thanks to a reader for passing on word from Forest Hills Connection:

“Everyone in DC seems to know the Burger King at Van Ness more for its rock ‘n roll and 80’s movie decor than for its food.

By this time next year, the restaurant’s Capital Theater sign, the ET kids and the Kindergarten Cop poster will be gone, and so will the Burger King restaurant and building at 4422 Connecticut Avenue, NW. Going up in its place, says ANC 3F Commissioner Malachy Nugent, will be a new building housing a different restaurant: Chick-fil-A.”

Massive news from a New York Times profile about Eric Hilton:

“Next, he gestured to No. 2014 next door, a shuttered rowhouse where Mr. Hilton plans to open a Korean barbecue restaurant with Erik Bruner-Yang, known for his ramen shop Toki Underground on H Street. It is one of four restaurant projects Mr. Hilton has underway.”
