Garrison opened up in the former Tash space on Barracks Row back in June. Anyone check them out yet?

From an email:

“I wanted to let you know about a few new items that Chef Rob Weland has added to the dinner menu at Garrison. The full dinner menu is available here and highlights include a handmade farro cavatelli made from house-milled flour ground from Anson mills farro piccolo, farro antica and red fife wheatberry; and a Crispy Envelope of Pig’s Trotter with slow cooked egg, red onion marmalade and mustard. A new fall cocktail menu by lead bartender Jessica Moyer includes a seasonal take on a Manhattan called All The Leaves Are Brown made with Dad’s Hat rye whiskey, black walnut infused vermouth, bitters, and an Aperol soaked fig. The bar team has also created a menu of non-alcoholic beverages and sodas, such as The Celebration, a ‘faux Champagne’ made with house-made ginger beer, soda water, and allspice lime foam.

From DC Reynolds:

We’ll open at 5pm on Thanksgiving with our 3rd annual free turkey dinner. Can’t get “home” for the holiday, don’t want to host a Friendsgiving, or just want to catch some football with some friends? We’ll be here. Dinner is free, drinks are ‪#‎BOGO‬, cookies and pie are appreciated.”

Earlier this month Tenleytown DC reported:

“Chick-fil-A has filed for a construction permit with the District Department of Transportation for the former Payless ShoeSource storefront at 4505 Wisconsin Avenue.”

Of course not without a fight

“Do parents want their kids at nearby schools-Janney, Wilson, and Deal to be eating this at such an early age? Chick-fil-A, a popular chain among young adults and teens will just cause students at these schools to be unhealthy. There are numerous studies stating the more fast food kids eat as children, the more likely they are to continue these unhealthy eating habits through adulthood.”

Tenleytown DC shared the sad news last week:

“Murasaki Japanese Cuisine and Sushi Bar has closed its doors for good after nearly 14 years in the neighborhood.

It turns out Sushi Story LLC, which owns and operates Murasaki, has been facing financial difficulties for quite some time.”

Updates when we learn who takes over the space.

TJ Deli closed
1400 L Street, NW

Thanks to Adam for sending. I never ate there but apparently there were tons of fans – one yelper writes after learning the news:

“I literally just cried and gave the workers a hug after my co-worker came back to tell me TJ’s will be closing 11/20/15. They have the best Steak & Cheese sandwiches. I loveeeeeeeeeeee their buffet. The workers are nice. They remember our names & faces. I so hate when I find a place that’s all around perfect with customer service, great quality, people and food and they close. I will miss TJ’s.”

A reader reports:

“I don’t remember seeing this anywhere, but they seem to have suddenly closed. Bummer, this was the best spot for custard without going to the burbs.”

They used to make a mean sandwich too. Updates when we learn who takes over the space.
