I admit for a second I thought this might be a celebrity chef taco pop up for a second but then I saw front window – Wikipedia tells me:

“The Chalmun’s Cantina (often called the Mos Eisley Cantina or the Star Wars Cantina) is a fictional bar (cantina) of the Star Wars universe located in the “pirate city” of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine.”

“Dear PoPville,

Hey there – is there any update on when Little Coco’s construction is going to start? Still no construction movement seen, although construction is moving along for the Golden Paradise restaurant next door. The neighborhood is starting to get anxious about what’s taking so long! Any info you have is appreciated.”

From the owners – there was a bit of a delay due to circumstances beyond there control but there is some good news:

“Our new architects are HapstakDemetriou whose recent work includes Rose’s Luxury, Fiola Mare, Convivial, a couple Mussel Bars and many others. We couldn’t be more excited about the project.”

Updates when “permits are in hand”.

Despite the delay, the good news is it’s still coming and it’s gonna look awesome!!

Ed. Note: There was also a delay in Slash Run opening and that turned out great so I have a lot of confidence that this will be worth the wait. Besides Slash Run, Little Coco’s is from the same owners as El Chucho and Bar Charley, etc.

Back in July we noted Fishnet had closed their Shaw location and were left with the words “We’ll be back in the Fall with a new accessible, approachable vacation-inspired brand” and:

Now we have Drift on 7th: “Sustainable seafood at an affordable price in the heart of Shaw in Washington, DC”

Lots of details from a press release:

“Ferhat `Yalçın` is excited to announce his new concept Drift on 7th (1819 7TH ST NW) will open January 2016. The new menu will feature sustainable seafood at an affordable price. Painted in soothing blue tones, the design of the restaurant and welcoming service evokes feelings of escape from the hustle and bustle of DC.

Blue catfish, which is considered an invasive species by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, makes an appearance on `Yalçın` ‘s menu. In addition to encouraging the necessary transference of this fish from the bay to restaurant menus, Drift will donate a portion of the proceeds from each blue catfish dish sold to The Wide Net Project.

Other entrees include a rotating catch of the day, prepared and served simply to highlight the fish itself, in 6 to 8oz portions with a lemon wedge and a choice of side. Seafood staples are here as well in the form of fish and chips, Maine lobster roll, PEI mussels, and cedar plank salmon. The Pineland beef burger, also from Maine, offers a hearty land option. Update on Bozzelli’s Italian Sandwich Shop – the cashless spot coming to the former Which Wich/Cafe Mediterranean/Quinznos space just north of K Street.

The owner tells me: “We received our building permit on Dec 14. We are shooting for a late winter opening.”

Updates as they get closer to opening.  You can check out their Crystal City menus here.
