“Haiyo Dog, Asian hot dogs on milk bread buns, is popping up at EatsPlace, 3607 Georgia Avenue NW, starting February 8, 2016, Monday through Saturday 5 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

On Monday, February 8, 2016, starting at 5:00p.m., Chef Katy Chang will introduce Haiyo Dog, her unique hot dog and milk bread bun concept, at the food incubator and restaurant accelerator EatsPlace.

Washingtonians will be the first to taste Haiyo Dog’s distinct flavors inspired from her family in Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul and the Midwest. Growing up in Washington DC, Katy travelled extensively to the East and Midwest to visit relatives and taste the local foods. Haiyo Dog specializes in hot dogs that include a variety of topping variations of ma po tofu, sushi, tonkatsu, and kimchi, on a milk bread bun. Sides will include smothered pierogies and hasselback potatoes, a baked not fried version of the Asian street snack. Dessert will include black sesame buckeyes, a variation of the Midwestern sweet. Last week a reader sent word that Alero Cleveland Park had been removed from Alero’s website locations and a gank banner went up. When I stopped by they were closed but Alero U Street (Dupont Circle also remains Alero) confirms via email – alas providing scant details:

“That is correct, Alero Cleveland used to be part of our company.”

Anyone been to the now simply “Mexican Restaurant” above Medium Rare? The menu posted out front was the same – updates when more is known.

DECLARATION will be a 52 seat, pizza-centric restaurant featuring an Marra Forni brick hearth oven, thoughtful, farm to table cuisine with a location in the emerging neighborhood of Shaw at 804 V Street, NW. PRG Corporate Executive Chef Demetrio A. Zavala will be at the helm of the restaurant and looks to create some memorable cuisine in the North Shaw neighborhood. In addition to traditional Neapolitan style pizza, there will be 13 pizzas on the menu representing the 13 colonies when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Serendipitously, the restaurant is 1776 square feet – 1776 was the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. A distinctive hand crafted cocktail bar (designed by Bar Chef/Mixologist John Hogan), select draft beer and a specially selected wine list will be offered. Declaration will also have 12-18 outdoor seats for seasonal, street side dining. (more…)
