From a press release:

“Farmers Restaurant Group introduces the newest addition to their collection of farmer-owned restaurants, Farmers & Distillers, at 600 Massachusetts Avenue. The restaurant is targeted to open in November of 2016.

FRG is behind the success of the award-winning Founding Farmers DC, and the popular MoCo’s Founding Farmers, Founding Farmers Tysons, and Farmers Fishers Bakers at the Georgetown Waterfront in DC. Farmers & Distillers is majority owned by the North Dakota Farmers Union, and has a variety of investors ranging from National Farmers Union, Wisconsin Farmers Union, and a number of private individuals that share a passion for supporting and promoting sustainable agriculture and green business practices.

ABOUT FARMERS & DISTILLERS

Farmers & Distillers embodies the true enterprising spirit of the original founding father, George Washington. His collaborative nature and keen eye for opportunity brought together an entire country, and also made him an entrepreneur ahead of his time. He experimented with progressive farming techniques at his Mount Vernon estate, and established what became the largest distillery in America at the turn of the 18th century.

In celebration of George Washington and the nation’s capital both then and now, the Farmers & Distillers menu showcases cuisines from a variety of influences found all around DC. There is inspiration from neighboring Chinatown with hand-pulled noodles, shaobing (Chinese flatbread) and farmers-style dumplings. You’ll find crispy pork schnitzel recalling the original German immigrants working on DC’s east side; GW loved European cooking techniques, which are being utilized in dishes like Pot au Feu (slow cooked short rib) and Bouillabaisse. Every decision was pulled through the filter of “What would George do?” be it with flavor, plate ware, cooking technique, or design. (more…)

At last, Buredo’s, “Burrito-size sushi rolls”, second location opens in Dupont today!

“The wait is over, DC! We are opening our Dupont location August 3rd, at 11 am. We have some new menu items in store for you, plus we are giving a free buredo and Spindrift Fresh sparkling water to the first 200 people to join us.”

Their first spot opened last summer at 825 14th Street, NW.

pasta mia
1790 Columbia Road, NW

Back in June we heard some scuttlebutt that “Cucina Al Volo set to replace Pasta Mia” but there’s no info on their twitter or facebook and their website is not active. So not clear if they’re still planning on taking over the space (or taking the Pasta Mia name?) or someone else is coming but one thing’s for sure – we’ll know by August 12th!

Update from Chez Billy to clear up some of the rumors. Renovation on the space has “started for a new concept” today. What exactly the new concept will be still needs to be “ironed out”. They are hoping renovations will only take a month but realize in reality it could take longer. Maybe two months. No employees were laid off. All will be invited back when they reopen with the new concept. Also employees can transfer to their other restaurants. Updates when more is known on the new concept. (more…)

2318 18th Street NW upstairs

Back in March we learned:

“Insomnia Cookies has officially signed its first lease in Washington D.C. after years of looking for a location. The D.C. storefront is set to begin delivering warm, delicious cookies to the capital city this summer. The new location at 2318 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan will open to serve retail customers daily from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. and will begin delivery from noon until 3am.”

They were originally hoping to open this summer but it looks like, like Nando’s, Fall might be more realistic. Stay tuned.
