5th and K St, NW

Thanks to Mary for sending the story from the Washington Business Journal:

“After 10 years at the prominent corner, owner Andy Shallal is moving on — but not too far.”

WBJ says they are moving into the old Bistro L’Hommage space across the street at 450 K Street, NW and should be open in September. STAY TUNED.

Thanks to Chuck for sending the photo above. I saw a tweet from the The X2 over the weekend:

“seen in the old avery’s spot at 1370 h st ne– coming soon: Caribbean Citations. the tag line says “turn a traffic ticket into a meal ticket.”

If the name looks familiar that’s because they were originally open in Shaw briefly before moving to Anacostia. Check out an old menu from 2015 after the jump. (more…)

The Meatball Shop is coming to the former Cork space next to Peregrine.

Thanks to Grant for the heads up. This is the former Au Bon Pain space that closed back in March. Their website says:

“When we looked around for inspiration, we were drawn to the richness, flavours and natural healthiness of Mediterranean cooking. We base our food around the Mediterranean diet, meaning our menu focuses on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seeds and unrefined cereals. We look to replace butter with healthier fats such as olive oil, use spices and herbs instead of salt to flavour dishes and look to encourage more chicken and fish in our diets, with a little red meat thrown in for good measure. We do also understand the need to have a treat, be it a glass of red wine or something sweet, but only as a small part of our diet.”

Anyone take a taste overseas?

A worker on scene told me they should be open by the first week of June and a peek inside shows they are just about ready to roll:

“Milk Bar will open its third location in D.C. in Logan Circle, right at the corner of 15th Street and Church Street NW. Located at 1525 15th St. NW, the 2,382 square-foot bakery will be the largest Milk Bar bakery to-date, serving as the bakery’s flagship location in the region. Housed in a former auto-mechanic shop, the Logan Circle outpost will feature Milk Bar’s first baking classroom in D.C. and second nationwide, and it will be the first shop with seating for guests to dine in-store and in an outdoor courtyard.”

Back in February we learned that Arosto Pizza was coming to the former Sushi Go Round space in Chinatown. Some more details from a liquor license placard posted:

“New Class “C” family-owned and operated restaurant that will serve pizza; offering over 15 signature pizzas, fresh salads, and world-class sandwiches served on bread that is baked to order in a stone hearth pizza oven. The restaurant will have 40 seats and a capacity of 99 inside, along with a Summer Garden with 30 seats. Total Occupancy Load of 129.

Check out Arosto’s Virginia menu here. Updates as they get closer to opening.
