Inside the Pod Hotel @ 627 H Street NW. Barrelhouse Brunch at Crimson Whiskey Bar.

From a press release:

“Crimson Whiskey Bar, located downstairs from the lobby of the Pod Hotel in Chinatown, is now offering Barrelhouse Brunch, served every Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Chefs Lawrence DiJoseph and Erick Morales sling an array of Southern-inspired, hangover-friendly entrees, like their Bayou Benedict (poached eggs and fried oysters over an English muffin and drenched in rich hollandaise), Creole Strata (a baked egg, andouille, and shrimp colossus), and the don’t-miss signature, the Gold Plate Special–savory country fried chicken and melted cheese sandwiched between to halves of a sliced-and-grilled vanilla-bean-glazed doughnut. “any intel on when Zenebech in Adams Morgan will reopen? I miss their sambusas toooo much.”

Unfortunately the latest is from a few weeks ago:

“We are hoping to be open before the start of summer and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

Zenebech has been closed since December when a fire gutted next door neighbor #1 Juicy-Cajun Seafood, damaging Zenebech.  Zenebech Injera had only recently reopened, after moving from Shaw, in August 2017. Updates when they get a firm reopening date.

“Dear PoPville,

Any recommendations on a good place to have a birthday dinner with a group (8-10?) My only requirement is good food (but also not too expensive – several friends are very careful with their budgets), and ideally something pretty centrally located in the city.

A patio/outdoor option would be nice, but not necessary.

I’ve done Boqueria and Tico in the past – could continue the tapas theme, or open to something else!”

3410 11th Street, NW between Park and Monroe

From the Good Silver:

“The Good Silver, located at 3410 11th St NW in Columbia Heights, is happy to announce we are switching things up in a big way. After a year-long identity crisis (“is it a cocktail bar, a sports bar, or a tinder spot?”), we’re tearing it all down and starting from scratch. So, we’ve combined two of our favorite things: deli sandwiches and booze. If your favorite cocktail is whiskey neat, and you believe the path to enlightenment is on top of pastrami piled high, you will be right at home at the new Good Silver. The food menu, from chef Mytia Crawley, features cured and smoked meats from new, local company Epic Curing. For beverages we’re sticking to bottles, cans, combos and cocktails that don’t require a PhD to appreciate (all $10 and under).

Menu and more after the jump. (more…)
