Ed. Note: ABP closed on L Street back in late February.

Thanks to C for sending:

“Au Bon Pain permanently closed at 1100 Vermont (Vermont and L).

This follows the closure of the Zoup! on the other corner, in the same building. They have signage up indicating a full renovation for 2019 and seemingly soliciting new retail and offices… And there was the rumor about a downtown Wawa coming in which no longer seems to be the case.”

Ed. Note: I was out of town this weekend but boy did I get a lot of messages about this one. Bravo Red Hen, Bravo. Also, you are delicious and have reminded me that I need to eat there again post haste!

You can read about what started this whole brouhaha here.

1020 19th Street, NW

UPDATE from the owner:

“I changed the name of the restaurant to Bryson’s Cafe after my first born son who is now 13 months. There is no curse! Our business is doing really good especially our catering business. We are actually in the process of expanding and seeking new locations under our new name. 19th St Customers can expect a small remodel coming soon and some minor tweaks to the menu with a heavy focus on our new mix and match tacos which have been wildly popular. Any future remodel work we will just do on the weekends but we will stay open. We will also be running some really good promotions in the upcoming future, such as our $1 large la colombe coffee which we are running right now. Bryson’s is an evolution of Moxies. Since we are locally owned and operated, We took all the feedback from 2 years and we adapted and made improvements. We will continue to improve and customers should check out the “new” Bryson’s Cafe!”

1316 9th Street, NW via San Lorenzo Ristorante + Bar

Faster than they thought!!

From a press release:

“A taste of Tuscany will arrive on 9th St. NW in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC, when Chef Massimo Fabbri opens San Lorenzo Ristorante + Bar to the public on Monday, June 25.

Massimo Fabbri takes exceptional pride in presenting his culinary creations, and San Lorenzo — DC’s latest anticipated eatery, is his most personal and passionate endeavor yet, paying homage to Massimo’s family and hometown of Monsummano Terme in the Tuscan region of Italy.

When you step into San Lorenzo you’ll be transported to Italy — from the food and wine, to the cheerful, slightly cheeky attitude and the exquisite space. The menu will feature simple but elegant preparation of fine, fresh ingredients from the Tuscan region; the classic dishes with which Massimo grew up. The warm surroundings will feature layers of rich texture and elements of the Monsummano town crest. (more…)

White Apron opened up in the former Chapters Literary Bookstore space just south of E Street back in 2013. Thanks to Barred in DC for letting us know:

“Downtown sandwich spot White Apron closed earlier this month after a little more than 5 years in business. Too bad, solid sandwiches and super friendly and quick service.”

Updates when we learn what becomes of the space.

9th and Q Street, NW

Or so I’m told. Back in May I shared some scuttlebutt that a Japanese concept from the owners of Chaplin’s was coming to the former Shaw’s Bijou/French Quarter Brasserie space.  French Quarter Brasserie closed in January and Shaw Bijou closed in January of 2017. Chaplin’s is located down the street at 9th and P Street, NW and opened back in 2014. I know hear it’ll be called Zeppelin and should open in a couple of months. STAY TUNED.
