I have no more tears to shed so I shall simply bellow a groan from the pit of my belly, tear my shirt, and pour out some Dr. Brown’s in anguish. There are no words. Having said that – some words from Star and Shamrock:

“It is bittersweet for us to announce that after 10 years on H St, the Star & Shamrock will be closing. We are excited to shift our focus to new opportunities and projects. It has been our pleasure to play a part in the continued reimagining of this storied neighborhood. (more…)

From Roofers Union:

“We are turning 5 this February and throwing a week long party to celebrate! Each day, we will feature a few of our favorite dishes from year one along with a different vintage beer, beginning with a 2013 on Monday through a 2019 on Sunday! These are the most epically exciting beers we’ve been able to stash away since we opened! Additionally, we will extend the cellar list to 100 bottles ~ offering each at half price all week long!

Be sure to join us Sunday, 2/10 for our official Anniversary Party. We will provide some of our favorite snacks from the past 5 years and all draft beers will be sold at $6 (even leftover epic vintage options). We could not have made it to this point without the love and support of our guests, this is our opportunity to show our thanks!

From a press release:

Lulabelle’s is back! Julie Wineinger, the owner of Willow and Lulabelle’s, announces that after a short hiatus Lulabelle’s will reopen on Tuesday, February 5th at 8AM. “Our team has been working really hard to expand our offerings and we are excited to introduce breakfast and lunch options,” said Wineinger.

The new menu is comprised of several family recipes including a Shipwreck Sandwich, which is an egg frittata between ciabatta bread and grilled on a waffle iron ( a sausage and vegetarian version are available). Wineinger states, “Lulabelle is the term of endearment that my Grandfather called my Grandmother so it was only fitting that the menu features one of her recipes – Hot Fudge.”

They now have several sandwich choices such as turkey, apple, swiss, with strawberry jam , hot ham and brie, and grilled cheese. A vegan sandwich is also in the works and should be available in the next couple of weeks. A collection of pastries plus drip coffee round out the new menu.

“It has been so much fun selecting all the new items for the shop (like fancy sprinkles and retro sodas) but I want our loyal fans to know that some things have stayed the same such as the candy, the Taharka Brothers Ice Cream, and the Lost sock coffee. We kept all the awesome of the original Lulabelle’s and just added more to it,” says Wineinger.

We're honored and excited to announce today's America's Classics winner: Annie’s Paramount Steakhouse in Washington, D.C.! George Katinas, a first-generation Greek-American and U.S. army veteran, opened the restaurant in 1948, and by the '60s it had earned a reputation as a welcoming space for the LGBTQ community. Through the years, Annie’s has remained a stalwart supporter of LGBTQ causes, among them the Gay Men’s Chorus, Whitman Walker Clinic, Food and Friends and the Pride parade. At Annie’s, the steaks are hefty, the burgers juicy and the cocktails strong, but what really keeps people coming back is the restaurant’s legacy of inclusiveness and respect. Head to our stories to learn more and huge thanks to @dannygrubs for helping us share this breaking #jbfa news!
