Valor Brewpub, Capitol Hill’s veteran-inspired restaurant and brewery, is hosting a two-month pop-up starring Qui Qui, a cult favorite food truck and catering company specializing in Caribbean cuisine. The pop-up begins Sunday, June 16 and occurs every Sunday and Monday until the end of August.

Qui Qui, derived from a childhood nickname for co-owner, Ismael Mendez, is Caribbean-fusion with a focus on Mexican and Puerto Rican cuisines. The pop-up will feature their most popular dishes like Mofongo (smashed plantain), Kan Kan (Tomahawk Porkchop), and Churrasco (seared skirt steak), as well as some collaborative dishes with Valor Brewpub Executive Chef, Ryan Hackney. “District Taco, a popular fast-casual Mexican restaurant in the D.C. Metro area, is opening its second restaurant in the state of Maryland on July 1, 2019. The restaurant is located in The Blairs Shopping Center, on East West Highway. The restaurant, at 1310 East West Highway, will join Mamma Lucia, Giant Foods, CVS, and Peet’s Coffee among others in the shopping center.

This marks the second restaurant opening in Maryland for restaurateur Osiris Hoil and his rapidly growing restaurant chain. The company, which now employs more than 400 people and operates 13 locations throughout D.C, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, expects to expand with a restaurant in Abington, PA, and another Philadelphia location adding 100 employees to the company in 2019. From there, the restaurant chain plans to open multiple restaurants in 2020.

The Grand Opening for the Silver Spring location will be on Monday, July 1st at 12pm. (more…)

Yikes. The Washington Post reported yesterday:

“Massimo Fabbri, chef and owner of San Lorenzo Ristorante and Bar in Shaw, was arrested recently in a Delaware beach town on cocaine possession and other charges, according to a police report. Police searched both Fabbri and a female companion and allegedly found 191 grams of cocaine, with a street value of $19,100, in their possession. Authorities also allegedly found $3,201 in cash.”

Back in April we learned the new pizza spot coming to the old Chipotle space would be a Tino’s. A liquor license placard has now been posted:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Restaurant with a seating capacity of 49 and Total Occupancy Load of 60. Sidewalk Café with 14 seats.

Tino’s website is now live too:

“Tino’s pizzeria concept was inspired by Chef, Logan Griffith’s pizza making passion and intrigue to create a traditional yet modern Neapolitan style pizza. The name Tino’s was inspired by Logan and wife Maria’s newly arrived son Constantino.”
