“Dear PoPville,

The man friend and I got to talking about what a post-covid world would look like as DC slowly reopens. I’m immuno-suppressed so we won’t be going out in this capacity any time soon, but assuming the restaurant/bar scenes will never recover or operate as they had in the past we got to discussing how some of them could adapt and survive/thrive.

We saw a few articles discussing how some restaurants plan to use mannequins and fake dolls to fill empty space, but how creepy is that and what a waste of space! I’d like to know what Popville thinks about the return of the “dinner theater” experience! Knowing tables will need to be spaced out for diners and concerts/art performances aren’t happening any time soon, wouldn’t a better use of the space be dining and listening to an entertainer (small band, two-person play, violinist, etc.) Surely there is no shortage of artists and talent in DC! From a press release:

“The Tryst Trading Company has announced it will now offer carryout with limited menu options at the Diner, in the Adams Morgan neighborhood.

The CEO and Owner Constantine Stavropoulos explains the priorities in safety and putting a limited staff back to work. “The health and safety of our staff is our first priority. Like many DC restaurants, we temporarily closed our restaurants in March. While it was a heartbreaking decision, we remained optimistic about reopening our doors in a safe and responsible manner. Our team members have been incredibly patient as we worked to reopen our doors.”

Guests can access the limited menu items from the Diner’s website, www.dinerdc.com. Carryout will be available daily, from 5 PM- 9 PM. (more…)

Thanks to Dave for sending: “Looks like a bakery is eventually going into the former Johnny Rockets M Street location. [3131 M Street, NW]

Hold up.., the application is to a person named Andy Taylor. Googling that name with “bakery” pops up Levain Bakery.

Are we getting a Levain Bakery?!”

STAY TUNED.

517 H Street, NE

From an email:

“Beginning May 25th, the restaurant will be open from morning through night serving Brunch all day. Breakfast for dinner? Sure. Dinner for breakfast? Why not? Dessert for lunch? Sure.

Of course the products are farm fresh and cocktails, wines, grocery items and plant based options are also available, all delivered pretty much contact-free through the restaurant’s take-out window on H Street or through GrubHub.

You can check out their menus here.”
