From Duke’s:

“It’s a very busy week at Duke’s Grocery in Dupont Circle. Today, the gastropub launches a Pappy Van Winkle Charity Auction to raise money for So Others Might Eat (SOME), opens a Spirits Shop and announces plans to grill full Memorial Day Weekend platters on the patio.

For the charity auction, donors can select the Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year or the Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year. 100% of auction proceeds will be donated to SOME. Speaking of bourbon, Duke’s also opens a Spirits Shop, with kits available. For example, the Botanist Gin Martini Pack comes with two Stölzle crystal martini glasses, stainless steel shaker and deluxe stirrer. Limited edition bottles from Blanton’s, Eagle Rare and Weller are also available.

This weekend, a huge smoker takes over the front patio facing 17th Street for a traditional Memorial Day Weekend cookout. (more…)

Thanks to William (and others) for passing on the notice from Federalist Pig:

“Hey Friends,

Two of our team members tested positive for COVID-19 this past weekend. The rest of our team tested negative.

Yesterday, we had a professional cleaning company come into the restaurant to thoroughly disinfect and sanitize the space. They used a virucide product which is approved to eliminate COVID-19.

We are taking today to reorganize our operations so we can be back to serving you on Thursday, May 21 (tomorrow). (more…)

18th Street, NW looking towards Columbia Road

From a press release:

“Earlier this month, community leaders announced the creation of the Adams Morgan Commercial Development Coalition (AMCDC), an organization focused on the reimagination and the livability of the Adams Morgan commercial core as we come out of the COVID-19 pandemic. The AMCDC – consisting of neighborhood residents, commercial and mixed-use property owners and Adams Morgan business owners and employees – urges District of Columbia leaders to take bold action by empowering the Adams Morgan community to reinvent 18th Street. The AMCDC envisions a roadway used for additional outdoor spaces for pedestrian activity, neighborhood retailers and food and beverage establishments. (more…)

1443 P Street, NW (from happier times before the closures, obviously)

From an email:

“Commissary, the casual American concept from EatWell DC, re-opens for takeout and delivery on Wednesday, May 20th at 1443P St NW. The restaurant has been closed for the past 2 months and has undergone a top to bottom cleaning and menu evolution. The casual all-day spot has retailored the menu to better serve the take-out and delivery market while retaining all the fan favorites.

“We waited until we had a better understanding of the situation and could formulate a plan of safety for our team and our guests. We have great people who want to get back to work and providing that opportunity, carefully, has been a goal since we closed. It is important for us to be your neighborhood “go to”. We wanted to be there for the community, but our team’s health and safety had to come first. Now that we have a safe plan, we felt it was time to reemerge” says principal owner David Winer

Chef Tom Crenshaw has been brainstorming for weeks and the new breakfast and lunch menu offers more sandwich options like Pastrami and Grill Vegetables as well as breakfast sandwiches like Panini and Fried Chicken with eggs while still offering classics like Blueberry Pancakes and Patty melts. Bullfrog Bagels and La Colombe coffee are also still available for take-out and Delivery. Dinner options will preserve the beloved Herb Roasted Chicken, Crispy Skin Salmon and Fish & Chips while adding what’s sure be a new fav, Hot Chicken and family style meals (for 4) that have options for Salads, Entrees, Sides and Desserts at a super reasonable neighborhood price. You can look forward to pop up specials from our Eatwell DC sister restaurants as well.

Cocktails, including Frose, Bloodies and Mimosas (by glass & pitcher), Beer, Wine (bottles and cans) will be offered (more…)
