Megan writes: “I know Teaism has fought hard to stay open, between the pandemic and a major fire in summer 2020. Let’s keep a local spot open!”
Teaism writes: “Of course we are immensely grateful for support – we don’t have any office workers downtown. But we’re in the same boat as plenty of other spots. Please keep supporting all of the places you want to stay around.”

Update from DC Fire and EMS: “Update crash with multiple injuries 5500 block Conn. Ave NW. #DCsBravest transported 8 patients to area hospitals. 5 of those are critical. Currently 3 additional treated and released on scene. No entrapment and no structural damage.”

One reader reports: “I heard the crash and immediately went outside and saw tables everywhere and the car on top of people. Immediately men ran out of nowhere to help lift the SVU off of a woman who is trapped. Not sure if that is the woman who has passed away or not. It was horrific and scary and there were tears everywhere. My friend who was sitting out side said it looked like the person meant to press the brakes quickly but instead accelerated quickly. Starbucks closed for the day as did most places around.”
DC Fire and EMS reports:
“Crash with Mass casualty incident declared 5500 block Conn. Ave NW. Vehicle struck outside seating area of restaurant. #DCsBravest triaging multiple patients. No structural damage.”
From AlertDC: “DCFEMS reports the 5500 block of Connecticut Avenue NW, between Livingston Street and Morrison Street NW, will be closed until further notice due to a vehicle crash. Please use an alternate route.” (more…)

Earlier this week we posted about Astro Doughnuts closing their pop up in Shaw. A tipster send word that they heard Motown Square Pizza would be coming here. A little digging around confirms it (well confirms they’re coming somewhere in Shaw!)

via IG
Their Instagram says this is their last weekend serving out of Mess Hall in Edgewood. And a link to a GoFundMe says:
“MOTOWN IS MOVING!!!!
Motown fam, we are happy to announce we’re moving locations! We are headed to Shaw, DC. Our last day at our Edgewood location will be March 12th.”
More from the GoFundMe:
“My name is Paulos Belay and I am a native Detroiter, with roots in Ethiopia and Mississippi. (more…)

DC Brau’s Brandon Skall collects a donation from an elderly participant
From an email:
“The neighborhood pub (116 Rhode Island Ave, NW) will host St. Baldrick’s Day on Sunday, March 13. DC Brau’s Brandon Skall will MC the head-shaving event, which raises funds for St. Baldrick’s foundation – an organization dedicated to pediatric cancer research. If you’re not familiar with the annual tradition, Boundary Stone hosts individuals and teams from local breweries and restaurants who volunteer for head (and beard!) shaves during the auction-style event. The Barbers of Hell’s Bottom will once again be volunteering their time to administer the head shaves. There will be a Charity Beer Garden on the patio, where 100% of beer sales will be donated to St. Baldrick’s. Plus, all sales of any Tito’s drink in the pub will go to the organization. Boundary Stone has raised more than $500k for the nonprofit since 2014.
Then on March 17, Executive Chef David Bacot will have three St. Patrick’s Day specials on the menu for the holiday: (more…)

Check out the Newland Prefixe Menu here.
From a press release:
“On March 8, chef Andrew Markert will open the doors to Newland located at 327 7th Street SE for its soft opening. Named after the street in the Guilford neighborhood of Baltimore where Markert grew up, Newland is his most ambitious project to date, and represents the culmination of his journey in cooking thus far. The restaurant tells Markert’s story through technique-driven dishes with touches of nostalgia that showcase the elevated cuisine that is the focus of the current moment in his career. It joins Beuchert’s Saloon, his nearly nine-year old Capitol Hill restaurant located around the corner, and the upcoming nearby brick-and-mortar space for Fight Club, his pandemic-era sandwich pop-up, in his growing portfolio of Capitol Hill restaurants.
