Earlier this week we posted about Astro Doughnuts closing their pop up in Shaw. A tipster send word that they heard Motown Square Pizza would be coming here. A little digging around confirms it (well confirms they’re coming somewhere in Shaw!)
via IG
Their Instagram says this is their last weekend serving out of Mess Hall in Edgewood. And a link to a GoFundMe says:
“MOTOWN IS MOVING!!!!
Motown fam, we are happy to announce we’re moving locations! We are headed to Shaw, DC. Our last day at our Edgewood location will be March 12th.”
More from the GoFundMe:
“My name is Paulos Belay and I am a native Detroiter, with roots in Ethiopia and Mississippi.
My heritage led me to cooking as a profession. After culinary school, I managed a pie bakery in the suburbs of Detroit. After relocating to D.C. with my wife, I worked in pastry at DBGB, a french bistro, then most recently at a Jewish bakery in Woodley Park.
After my first six months here, I got really homesick. One of the things I missed most was Buddy’s pizza, the original Detroit style pizza shop where I worked for a few summers after high school. I couldn’t afford a ticket home, so I turned to making my own pizza. I experimented with dozens of recipes, making pizza in my apartment at least three times a week, and for family and friends. After many failed pizza experiments, two years of planning, and support from my wife, family and friends, I’m finally starting my business.
This GoFundMe is mainly to help with the larger costs associated with opening and operating a successful pizza business. We were able to secure funds for rent at the food incubator, however, our main need at the moment is preparing to scale up in order to be fully operational and safe.”
STAY TUNED.
