The Infamous Archibald Walk Treehouse has been denied a permit but the owners say they’ll move it according to the Washington Post:

A District committee denied a request Thursday to allow a treehouse on Capitol Hill to jut about 20 inches into a narrow public alley — a win for opponents in the neighborhood who want it removed.

But the couple who built it vowed to keep the treehouse for their young daughters, saying they plan to move it a few inches to comply with city requirements.

There, now we can all be friends again…

snow dc post apocolpyse

A reader reports:

“C st btw 3rd and 3th st sw. Block from HHS building. Fed center metro stop, house office buildings etc. buses and truck keep driving down it only to realize that part of the street is blocked. Its been plowed in with snow—but its in the middle of the street, so even if cars could drive around this car which is stuck in one lane, both lanes are filled with a big snow berm making it impassable. Good times DC.”

Ed. Note: Earlier, we spoke about CarbQue season continuing despite the snow.

“Dear PoPville,

How about a Wednesday edition of “Has Your Street Been Plowed?”?

No one ever came on the side streets in our neighborhood of Adams-Morgan between Columbia/19th St, NW and 18th Street, NW. Some vehicles have pushed through and created a single one-way lane of ruts, which, if cars meet, requires one to reverse and back up or down a hill and risk sliding into cars parked on both sides of the street. It’s like a bad game of bumper cars.

The city’s online snow plow reporting system was so bogus and did not reflect reality. It was just a bunch of warm dry people in heated offices looking at warm dry screens and telling people snow action request tickets were closed.”

Ed. Note: Check out this map to see streets that have been plowed.

Also I just got this email from a reader:

“Ambulance stuck in the snow on unplowed street

I wanted to share this video I took this morning on the 1400 block of Belmont St NW. An ambulance picked someone up then got stuck in the snow because after 3 days DC has not sent any plows down the street even once. At the end, the driver had to get out to shovel his tires out of the snow and back down the street.”

Video after the jump. (more…)

And it is a good question – the answer from DPW:

“Due to last week’s blizzard, DPW will suspend trash collection through Wednesday, January 27th. DPW will attempt collection on Thursday, January 28 and operate on an altered schedule Thursday through the weekend. Normal trash collection is scheduled to resume on Monday, February 1.

DPW will hire private contractors to augment the work of their crews.

The full trash collection schedule is as follows:

– Monday: Service resumes next week.
– Tuesday: Service resumes next week (Twice a week routes will be addressed this Thursday or Friday).
– Wednesday: Service resumes next week.
– Thursday: Service attempts will be made.
– Friday: Service attempts will be made.
– Saturday & Sunday: Possible service attempts on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday routes.
– Monday: Regular service will resume.”

“Dear PoPville,

Can we do a post on residential streets plowed or unplowed? I see the snow plow tracker has tons of activity in Georgetown but we haven’t seen a single plow on the residential streets of R, S, T, 12th, etc. in NW. DPW acting director is reporting the city is concentrating on areas of the city — doing them completely and then moving to others. How were the “areas” chosen?”
