Received a large number of tweets last night about hearing 7-8 shots fired in Petworth.

Details from MPD:

“At approximately 1130 pm officers received a call for Sounds of Gunshots in the 400 block of Delafield Place, NW.

Officers quickly responded and observed a dark colored SUV making a U turn in the block.

An attempt was made to stop the vehicle and the vehicle fled through the rear alley of the 800 block of Crittenden St., NW.

Officers then observed the vehicle being parked in the 800 block of Decatur St, NW. Suspects exited the vehicle and ran through the alley.

A perimeter was established and K9 was called. A concerned resident was able to assist officers with narrowing their search to a smaller area.

Officers located both suspect hidding in a yard while police K9 dogs were able to locate a semi automatic hand gun believed to have been used by the suspects.

An examination of the vehicle the suspects were driving revealed a large quantity of Crack.

Great work as a result of the police and community partnership established in PSA 407!”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to give a quick update on the peeping tom incident from last month. I saw the guy again last night and immediately called the cops. They came by, took a report, and within 30 minutes came by again to tell me they caught him.

So props to the cops and quick reminder that even if it feels silly to call something like this is in, in a city where there are drugs and homicides happening with such frequency, please still do. You don’t know what people’s intentions are and it lets cops know where they may need to increase their patrol.”

Alleged package theft at 8th and K St, NE

“Dear PoPville,

Can you post this for a friend of mine who lives off of 8th and K NE? He caught on camera a man stealing packages off his doorstep (the pictures are from a motion activated security camera). I know there are more pressing (violent) issues in this neighborhood right now, but the gall of this dude is infuriating.”

Ed. Note: Another reader sent an email about this incident saying the neighborhood group had a look out for Charlie Brown.

A reader reports:

“Around 9:30 this morning there was an awful hit and run accident on Georgia Ave between Otis & Princeton with a huge EMS response. I spoke to a bystander, who said the victim had been unloading his car (parked in a space facing northbound on Georgia) when a distracted driver moved into the parking lane and hit him, severing the victim’s legs. The driver then reversed and left the scene. He was described as older and a ‘distracted driver.’ Apparently MPD has a license plate, so maybe they will catch the driver soon.

I hope the victim gets the very best healthcare available. Might be a good time to remind everyone: Please remember- PAY ATTENTION when you are driving! Conditions change in an instant and without your full attention things can turn tragic very quickly.”

Readers reported on Monday:

“One of my neighbors just stopped me to make sure I was aware that at 2 pm a woman was jumped and mugged by 3 teenagers as she was leaving Cairo liquor (next to the Soviet Safeway). One of the managers from Safeway (Jim) came out to help her up off the ground. My neighbor said she was hurt, and the police eventually came. They took her purse. So just a reminder to be cautious and aware even in the middle of the day.”

and

“At 1pm today, my girlfriend was robbed at 8th and Gallatin, NW. Two teenagers walked up behind her and grabbed her bag. One was wearing a red puffy jacket and sported a high-top haircut.

Fortunately, she was unharmed. Police responded quickly. As you well know, these kids usually just grab the wallet and dump the bag. The bag, which is an orange leather Coccinele, has some personally valuable items, such as a national ID card (Portugual).”

If anyone spots an ID from Portugal or an orange leather bag please email me at [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP.
