“Shooting at 1628 hrs: at 14th & Meridian Pl. NW. Lookout for: B/M wearing white shirt, brown shorts, white tennis shoes”

Update:

“Around 4:30 PM, MPD responded to the report of the sounds of gunshots in the 1400 block of Meridian Place NW. MPD units arrived on the scene and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim is currently in stable condition and expected to survive the injuries. No other information is available at this time.

“In response to the multiple robberies in the 306/501 area in the past few weeks, the commanders of the Third District and Fifth District will be in attendance at the Bloomingdale Civic Association meeting tonight at 7pm at 160 U Street NW. We will be discussing the issues surrounding these crimes and some crime prevention strategies.”

I recently had an experience that left me shaken. I posted this to my FB page and it seems that it’s happened to one other person, too, and perhaps even more who I may not be associated with in social media.

Below is that FB post:

So I’ve been debating if this information was relevant to share, but it’s left me a little shaken up so…here goes. (Consider it a PSA for single women who drive around by themselves)

On Sunday I was driving in DC – @ 11:30am. I was on Rhode Island Ave NE. A guy pulls up next to me an starts to frantically get my attention. I roll down my passenger side window and he tells me that I need to pull over, my tire is about to fall off, it’s really shaking. I immediately vier over into the right hand lane and pull into a BofA parking lot. The guy pulls off with me. He’s in a beat up red van and gets out. I get out, too. He proceeds to try and budge my tire. At this point I’m standing outside of my car on the passenger side. A second vehicle pulls up to my driver’s side – two guys in a truck. They seem to know each other. One starts to get out of the truck as the red van guy tries to get me to “get down on the ground” to see this “ball joint” that’s supposedly loose. I immediately circle my car, get back in, lock the doors and roll down the window to tell the red van guy that I’m going to head to friend’s place and call AAA, thanks. He get’s upset, rolls his eyes and tells me that I can’t drive with my wheel like this. The truck of two guys pulls off.

I take my car to VW yesterday and there’s NOTHING wrong with my car.

Pepper Sprayed and Robbed, 3pm Sunday at 3rd and P Street, NW

“On Sunday, June 19, 2016, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a victim was robbed in the area of 1500 Block 3rd Street N.W.”

From a resident:

“To the jogger who was maced and robbed yesterday while on a run on 3rd Street, I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had the dumb luck of being the target of some predator lying in wait. I’m sorry our neighbors who saw the whole incident, who possibly could have even intervened, sat there and laughed, and then scattered the moment the police showed up.

This neighborhood is not indifferent to you. There are people who care – we have given the police our security camera footage of the incident, for what good it may do. As you were in the ambulance, neighbors waited in line to talk to the police to give their accounts of what happened. I hope you find some solace in knowing that most of us find these occurrences outrageous, and we won’t stand for this as the status quo anymore. Again, I’m sorry this happened to you, and I hope you’re doing okay today.”

From the victim:

Ed. Note: He didn’t wish to be quoted directly but he wanted people to know that he was pepper sprayed in the face at 3rd and P St, NW at 3pm. He was simply walking home from the gym and was tapped on the shoulder and then sprayed directly in the face.

Early Morning Shots Fired in Petworth; Shooting in Trinidad

“responding to incident in alley between Shepard and Randolph NW. Detectives on the scene.”

Another reader reports:

“I heard approximately 5 loud, single gunshots near 13th and Randolph St NW at 4:30am this morning. Immediately following the incident, there was audible talking in the alley between the 1300 block of Sheperd St and Randolph St NW. I called the police within a minute of the incident to report what I had heard. A 911 operator picked up right away and, in the time that it took me to explain what had I had heard, a police vehicle had already pulled into the alley. The police vehicle stopped halfway down the alley and an officer rushed out of his vehicle with gun drawn shouting in the direction of the audible talking in the alley following the gun shots. Within a minute, two other officers were running towards the commotion. Additional police vehicles came and left the scene during the course of this past halfhour.

There was another single loud bang sound at 5:06am. It was unclear whether or not that was a gunshot and/or related to the initial incident.”

“Around 10 PM Friday evening, MPD responding to the sounds of gunshots in the area of the 7th and Jefferson Streets NW. Responding officers did not locate any victims at the scene but did locate an adult male victim at a local hospital suffering from non life threatening injuries. This offense is being investigated by detectives in 4D.

Update:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Kentucky Avenue, Southeast, on Saturday, June 18, 2016.

At approximately 1:25 am, members of the First District responded to an investigate the trouble call inside of the listed location. Upon arrival on the scene, members located an adult female victim, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and determined that there were no signs consistent with life. The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The decedent has been identified as 40-year-old Stephanie Goodloe of Southeast, DC.”

Grabbed a six pack, parked my bike in the window and had storeowner watch it, as I walk up to pay, owner yells “your bike!!!!” … kid dips with my bike… All within 35 seconds

Happened at corner of 5th and M NW, hoping you can post it so if people see it they can report it

It’s a very rare bike (for DC) it’s a Rocky Mountain Flare 29″ wheels”

“Around 10:00 am, MPD responded to the 5400 block of Kansas Avenue, NW for a reported shooting. MPD arrived on the scene and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the wound is deemed not life threatening at this time. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a red shirt and driving a gray SUV style vehicle.

Friday Question of the Day – Have you been the victim of a crime in DC? (reader request)

Well this is a depressing one but a reader suggests a poll: “Have you been of victim of crime? Felony, misdemeanor or petty crime?” We actually asked a very similar question back in 2014 so it’ll be interesting to compare the results. In 2014 I added that I’d be curious to know where it happened and when (what year)? Also if an arrest/conviction was made?
