Does anyone have experience in handling safety concerns in “luxury” apartment buildings re: sketchy neighbors? I’ve now had to call the police twice at 2 am on what sounds like some kind of a drug deal/increasingly bold robbery attempts on my floor (breaking into the key locked hall, testing door handles and trying to break in to a couple of units, than going to the unit of the tenant they know and slamming on the door and screaming at the top of their lungs that (more…)
in light of today’s post regarding the assault of the dog walker, I wanted to share what happened to my friend earlier this week, as they might be related.
Around 11 a.m. on Wednesday 1/16, while walking in Columbia Heights, my friend was pulled into an alleyway at the corner of Sherman Ave. and Irving St. NW by two male assailants, who covered her mouth and threatened to stab her if she did not keep quiet. The men were incredibly violent as they stole her bag and patted her down for any other possessions, ultimately pushing her down a set of cement basement stairs and breaking her leg.(more…)
Our 69 yr old dog walker was brutally beat by two men with a pipe yesterday 1/17 in the 1400 block of Euclid Street, NW at approx. 1pm. They supposedly were trying to steal her car, but she resisted as it had two of her dogs in it. That is when they beat her until a good Samaritan scared them away. She survived luckily and is in Howard Hospital recovering from head wounds and concussion. She is such an amazing women and she has walking dogs in our neighborhood for years.
We are are reaching out as the two individuals were not caught and there is not a lot of information on them. Any tips can be sent to Stuart Emerman, Commander Third District ([email protected]).”

“According to Metropolitan Police, the hateful messages were found around 3 a.m. at two auto shops in the 1000 and 900 blocks of Brentwood Road. The words “I WANT JEXIT!”, were found scrawled in front of Shalom Tire and Auto repair by WUSA9 reporter Mikea Turner at one of the scenes.”
Update from MPD:
“MPD has been investigating several incidents of similar graffiti over the past month stating “I want Jexit.” We have been discussing it with national leaders on hate crimes, such as the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center, as well as local leaders in the Jewish community. At this time, there is no consensus on what it means, or whether it is motivated by hate.
We recognize that regardless of the meaning of the graffiti or the intent of the offender, it is causing concern in the community and there is a perception that it may be anti-Semitic. MPD wants to reassure the community that we and the Bowser Administration are taking this very seriously. The Mayor’s Director of Religious Affairs, and Monica Palacio, the Director of Human Rights, are speaking with members of the community. We will continue to investigate this and ask that anyone with information about the graffiti contact us.”
“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Office of Unified Communications (OUC) is proud to announce the implementation of a police non-emergency option. Residents and visitors of the District can now call 3-1-1 to report all police non-emergencies. The OUC defines a non-emergency call as any call related to an incident that does not pose an immediate threat to the safety of individuals and/or incidents that occurred at least one hour before the initial request for police assistance is made.
Last year, the agency received approximately 1.5 million 9-1-1 calls for service, and approximately of 20 percent of those calls were for non-emergency incidents. To improve call taking efficiency, the agency has developed a pathway for non-emergency calls using the current 3-1-1 call tree, previously utilized exclusively for city services and information.
