“A Vegas Wedding for Charity at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony THURSDAY, JUNE 21st 2018

Ivy and Coney, located at 1537 7th St NW and DC’s #1 Underground Engagement Ring Reseller for five years running, is proud to present it’s latest creation, Vegas Wedding at the Hot Dog House of Matrimony. In a year where the world has turned its attention to nuptials across the pond, we are here to remind people of America’s greatest contribution to marriage, being wed on the fly with no regard for any sort of commitment or future together. Nothing shows our freedom and frivolity more than by getting married to that stranger you met at the casino four hours ago with a ceremony overseen by Elvis as your closest slot machine friends cry and hoot and holler. And we will not stand for this English aggression on our limited attention spans. This most splendid of occasions will start on May 19th (there’s nothing happening that day, right?) and conclude on June 21st with an all out debaucherous final “reception” for charity.

While Megan and Harry tie the knot in front of a crowd of dignitaries and heads of state, you can get married* FOR FREE in front of a crowd of tipsy strangers. That’s right, for free! We will pay for your DC marriage license, provide a licensed officiant, toast your vows with Malort, and chauffeur you through Shaw in our customized somehow-still-running 1977 El Camino.** Who needs a horse-drawn carriage when you can have 4,000 lbs of American steel pull you down 7th street in style? From a press release:

“To kick-off patio season, Morris American Bar is excited to announce its casual outdoor companion will open on Tuesday, May 15th with an enticing selection of fix-style cocktails. Aptly named Fix Bar, the menu’s fix drinks – which came into popularity in the 19th century – may be likened to boozy (read: deliciously grown-up) snowcones. These non-traditional sour cocktails are always served over crushed ice and feature a base spirit, citric acid, and sweetener (e.g., sugar, honey, liqueur) – making them a quintessential outdoor libation.

Fix Bar’s casual and dog-friendly patio is a departure from Morris’ sophisticated and dreamy interior. Master barman David Strauss – who honed his meticulous affinity for service and technique while training under the late Sasha Petraske (Milk & Honey, Dutch Kills, Varnish) – brings a playful and lighthearted approach to cocktailing at Fix Bar, boozy snowcones and all. Guests seeking to relax and unwind will find Fix Bar is an everyday oasis with minimal restrictions.

Fix Bar has capacity for 60 guests and is walk-in only.

“Dear PoPville,

I’m among the many Royal Wedding enthusiasts in DC excited to celebrate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming wedding.  I’m even hosting my own viewing party.  After hearing about Pop-Up Bar DC’s Royal Pop-Up and seeing local media coverage of their drink specials and other themed items, I was looking forward to stopping by this week.  That is, until I read the drink menu and saw the “When Harry Met Megan” cocktail consisting of Monkey Shoulder Scotch, Ginger, Banana, and Lemon —https://popupbardc.com/menu/.

I am at a loss for words on my feelings about the racial overtones of the ingredients in this drink. I have showed the menu to several people of different racial backgrounds and the reaction is the same–complete disgust and disbelief that an establishment in DC could be so blatantly racist and hateful. A reader writes:

“Brass Monkey on 18th has apparently closed, from an employee who works there. It has been a fun 26 years.”

Now it’s quite possible that I haven’t been to the Brass Monkey in approximately 16 years.

Nevertheless, they had a pool table. And I played a million games at that pool table back in the day. So I shall keep nothing but my fond memories, should the closure to be true.

Perhaps it will be like the great Dan’s Cafe scare of 2015. But I don’t think so. I’m told from another source that Spaghetti Garden downstairs from Brass Monkey has also closed and that something very interesting is coming. STAY TUNED. Updates when more is known.

UPDATE: Thanks to all who messaged about the Metro Weekly story:

“Pitchers, a new LGBTQ sports bar, will open in Adams Morgan in June. David Perruzza, the longtime manager of JR.’s Bar, has signed a 10-year lease for a building that for years housed Adams Morgan mainstays, Spaghetti Garden, Roxanne Restaurant, and Peyote Karaoke Cafe.”

Update From Madam’s Organ:

“this ruling was NOT from Madam’s Organ vs DC ABRA That is a civil case that is still active
the Court of Appeals issued this ruling….not an opinion, not public, not signed by a judge….signed by the clerk about one purported incident

a very cowardly punt on the issues……and very rare….

BUT
.the judges didn’t lie….the judges did nothing

the abc board didn’t lie….they’re just incompetent and unqualified to serve on that board….
hell, at the original hearing they even dis-allowed evidence of multiple disciplinary actions against the ABRA investigator for perjury….disciplined by his own agency!

But, yes, the ABRA investigators did lie and the video did prove this….but the abc board still ruled in their favor

Unfortunately, the Court of Appeals stated that they could not re-litigate the board’s ruling….they are restricted to only look for mistakes in the legal interpretation….ridiculous to the extreme

Fortunately, we will not have these constraints disallowing past misdeeds by this investigator……who, surprise, surprise! is no longer w the agency….in our civil case”

Back in March of 2106 we posted “Madam’s Organ Sues DC ABC for Decades of Harassment and ABRA Investigators for Filing a False Police Report”. Now the ruling is out:

“The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board‟s judgment is hereby Affirmed.”

You can read the full ruling from the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA COURT OF APPEALS below:

“Not sure if I’m late on this one but yesssssssssss!!!!!!! right next to Soussi. Super excited!!!”

The Green Zone has been popping up all over D.C.

“Combining modern craft cocktails and mixology with the flavors of the Middle East, giving you drinks like the Saz’iraq, Lebanese No. 1, and Janissary Corps”

Thanks to Grant for the heads up:

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce that we have sold Slash Run to our manager, Christine Lilyea. She has been rockin’ the Run for the past couple years, and while we step away, she will keep serving up the burgers, beers and bands that you all love.

Best of luck to Christine and the crew! We’ll see you for a beer soon…

Love,
Jackie, Gordon, Nick & Ellen
(and now Christine!)”

Slash Run opened near the Old Soldiers Home back in 2015. The original owners were the folks behind El Chucho, Bar Charley, Little Coco’s etc. That they will “keep serving up the burgers, beers and bands” is all I needed to hear – congrats to Christine!

A reader reports that today is The Prospect’s last day. They hear that they were bought by the Blackfinn group, who plans to renovate the space in the next few months and reopen with “more of a southern atmosphere.”

The Prospect sports bar opened it the former Ulah Bistro space back in September 2015. Blackfinn currently has a D.C. location at 1620 I Street, NW.

The Prospect’s voicemail box is full and when trying to make reservations on their yelp platform it says there are no tables available. Updates when we learn more!

“Dear PoPville,

What happened to Bar Dupont? I went to meet my date there yesterday and the door was locked and the inside looked like it had everything ripped out.”

Bar Dupont’s website says:

“We have commenced an exciting re-development of Bar Dupont. The project is planned on a phased basis to ensure minimum disturbance to our guests. Throughout this transition you can still enjoy the Bar Dupont experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
