1130 Maine Avenue, SW courtesy Potomac Distilling Company

From a press release:

“On December 10, 2018, Todd Thrasher, the lauded wine and spirits devotee and multi-year James Beard Award finalist, has just opened the doors to his own highly anticipated Potomac Distilling Company on DC’s buzzing District Wharf. Nearly two years in the making, the project is Thrasher’s first venture into spirits production and an exciting transition from a storied career as one of the Beltway’s most celebrated barman. Potomac Distilling Compan houses a three-story Polynesian-style Tiki bar, Tiki TNT, which draws inspiration from countless rum-sodden scuba diving adventures throughout the South Pacific and West Indies during Thrasher’s time as a dive master. The complex houses the urban rum distillery, which will produce four varieties of Thrasher’s Rum – White, Gold, Spiced, and Green Spiced, a one-of-a-kind botanical blend made to impart flavors of gin with herbs grown on the distillery’s rooftop garden. Thanks to Dave (and Jason) for sending:

“We’ve seen some construction recently in the space that was supposed to be Yard & Toast. Not sure if that was also the one that had its roof cave in a few months ago. Anyway they put up a decorative door the other day so clearly something is in the works. I didn’t notice any change in the paperwork though.”

STAY TUNED.

Thanks to all who messaged on Friday. Aisha writes: “First Ruta, now Hanks”.

Hank’s Cocktail Bar writes:

“Hank’s Cocktail Bar is boxing up shop on December 14th & moving to the 2nd floor of our flagship location, Hank’s Oyster Bar in Dupont Circle. Same great cocktails, same Hank’s hospitality, awesome new space. Stay up to date on social media for our January 2019 reopening date. It’s not goodbye… it’s see you soon!”

Ed. Note: Brief but beloved Ruta Del Vino closed last month on Upshur Street after two years in Petworth.

Hank’s first opened on Upshur Street as Twisted Horn back in January 2016. They changed names to Hank’s Cocktail Bar back in November 2016. Updates when we learn what becomes of the property. A look at the property’s transformation after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m leaving the area(sadly!) and am trying to think of a bar to have a going away happy hour gathering in Adams Morgan/Dupont /U Street or Shaw. It could be a private room or private area though that’s not a requirement. Mostly, I’m trying to think of a spot with plenty of room that I could invite around 30 people to.”

From a press release:

“It has been three months since The Black Squirrel served its last beers in Adams Morgan. As we begin this new era in Adams Morgan, we welcome back some old favorites, familiar faces, as well as some fresh events for our new space.

Our Grand Reopening will be this Thursday, November 29th. We will feature free play in our arcade on the third floor, $1 off all beer and cocktails, $4 wine, and bartender’s choice combo specials. Of course, the kitchen will prepare a special treat, free of charge, for everyone coming out to celebrate the birth of our new restaurant. (more…)
