A little over a week ago we learned that a new Dunkin Donuts was coming next to Jimmy John’s at 14th and L St, NW. Thanks to a reader for sending photos that they’re moving fast and signage has already been posted.

2029 P Street, NW
Back in late Aug. 2012 we learned that Tasti D Lite had closed at 2029 P St, NW in Dupont. Get ready for Counter Culture LLC. Sadly they are not affiliated with counter culture coffee. Looks like Counter Culture LLC deals in wholesale kitchen cabinets. Not sure if that’s the same group but I’ll update whenever the new folks open. Also, still no word on a future tenant for the Columbia Heights Tasti D Lite space.

From a press release:
Georgetown’s hottest new dining destination is kicking off 2013 deliciously. On January 8, Farmers Fishers Bakers will launch First Bake, its weekday farmhouse style morning café with offerings for Georgetowners and Washingtonians on the go.
First Bake offers quality organic Intelligentsia coffee and other hot breakfast drinks, as well as freshly-squeezed juices to complement breads and other goods baked onsite, from 7:30am-10am, Monday through Friday. Casual, self-service seating will be available in the open pantry Larder adjacent to the dessert studio and bakery, with free wi-fi access and cozy communal setting.
Farmers Fishers Bakers is located at 3000 K Street NW at the Washington Harbour.

Harrar Coffee and Roastery recently opened at 2904 Georgia Ave, NW. I’m hoping it’s because of the holidays but it’s been dead empty the last couple times I stopped in. It reminds me a lot of Columbia Heights Coffee on 11th Street, which is to say it is awesome. If you live nearby you should def. check them out.

Good news for Dunkin Donuts fans who live/work near 14th and L Street, NW. WBJ’s Michael Neibauer shares word of a permit for a Dunkin Donuts coming to 1101 14th Street, NW.
Though the address is on 14th Street the only vacant retail space is actually on L Street just east of Jimmy John’s:

A reader hears some scuttlebutt that a Busboys and Poets could be coming to the new Takoma Central project at 235 Carroll Street, NW. I’ve also heard some scuttlebutt that they are interested in that space. If it is accurate – do you think Busboys and Poets would make a nice compliment to the already announced La Mano Coffee Bar coming to 304 Carroll St, NW?

304 Carroll St, NW
More good news for Takoma. I’m told:
“It’s a small space (460sq ft) so, once construction gets started, it should go fairly quickly. We’re forecasting a Spring opening.”
The coffee bar will be called La Mano Coffee Bar:
La Mano Coffee Bar is dedicated to bringing artisanally produced coffee beverages, as well as a menu of sweet and savory baked goods and complimentary sides, all prepared in-house, to the Historic Takoma Neighborhood of Washington, D.C. and Maryland. Stay tuned for updates as we set to open our doors in Spring 2013.

12th and S St, NW
In late October we finally learned who would be moving into the long vacant retail space at the corner of 12th and S St, NW. I stopped by yesterday and was told The Coffee Bar will be opening on Thursday or Friday (depending on some final paperwork.) Hours will be 7am-6pm. The space wasn’t completely photo ready but you can tell it’s gonna be pretty sweet. It is dominated by a huge bar and will have seating for around 35-40. There will be “no rules” wifi available. There will be pastries and Bethesda bagels among other eats. And of course we are talking some serious coffee here. The Cadillac of Coffee makers- La Marzocco:

2904 Georgia Ave, NW
The long awaited Harrar Coffee and Roastery has opened at 2904 Georgia Ave, NW between Harvard and Columbia. I stopped in on Sat. [they opened Sunday] and while some finishing touches were ongoing I was able to take a few photos. A great transformation of this former bodega. There is a narrow entry that leads to the coffee bar. Towards the back there is a small seating section for about 6-10. And of course there is roasting on scene and you can buy bags to go. I’m eager to head back to get a taste. Def. a great addition to the neighborhood.

More photos after the jump. (more…)
