Thanks to Frances for sending: “It’s the former Japanese Embassy chef’s new venture. I tried the sushi and it was delicious! They also serve paninis, smoothies, pastries, and Ethiopian coffee! A welcome addition to Kennedy St! I had lunch from there yesterday and the sushi was phenomenal!!!!”

We are partnering with Local caterer Mita cafe run by Chef Ionue – former Japanese embassy chef offering breakfast menu and freshly made sushi, hot drinks ethiopian coffee and pastries. 1829 14th Street, NW

Thanks to Noa and others for sending: “The Peet’s Coffee on 14th was closed all of the pandemic and I just walked by today and it no longer looks like they might re open. All the signs of Peet’s are gone and the windows have paper in them.”

Sadly we learned that they’d be permanently closing over the summer. This Peet’s Coffee opened here, in the former Vastu space, back in 2016.

“Dear PoPville,

A friend walked by Filter and he told me the espresso machine and most of the stuff inside was gone? Are they closing? moving? I know they have been closed since the beginning of the pandemic, with that part of town with very few workers, nothing would surprise me.”

A shout out to Dua Coffee on McPherson Square! This place has been giving me good vibes throughout this stupid pandemic. The staff is incredibly nice, the coffee is excellent, and it just feels like a nice escape from The Year That Shall Live in Infamy.

1301 Connecticut Ave, NW looking south

Last month we heard they were opening in November. And walking by yesterday, they indeed look ready to roll. Tatte opened their West End location in late August and there’s been a line ever since. Tatte’s website now says:
