“Katharina Fritsch’s Hahn/Cock Given to National Gallery of Art by Glenstone Museum as a Symbol of Hope and Renewal”

From an email:

“Katharina Fritsch’ Hahn/Cock (2013) has been given on the National Gallery’s 80th anniversary by the Glenstone Museum to the National Gallery as a symbol of hope and renewal on the horizon. From a press release:

“Today, The Wharf, Washington, DC’s world-class waterfront neighborhood, in partnership with the Southwest Business Improvement District (SWBID) and the Italian-inspired culinary collective Officina, unveiled a large-scale, outdoor crochet art installation of US Vice President Kamala Harris in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The piece is the work of the LA-based, international “yarn bomber” and street artist London Kaye. This latest work featuring Vice President Harris is titled “I’m Speaking” and is her largest installation to date, spanning 40-feet in width and 20-feet in height. (more…)

In late December Barredindc reported that “The Big Hunt Has Terminated Its Lease. Building for Sale/Rent”. I’ve been waiting for official word to come out but after spotting this dreaded sticker, I can be in denial no more:

For those not familiar:

“The Big Hunt is a one-of-a-kind dive bar and comedy venue in a sea of trendy clubs in the Dupont Circle area of Washington DC.

Open since 1992, The Big Hunt is one of DC’s oldest beer bars and has been serving quality craft beers on draft since long before the craft movement became mainstream”

There’s much that can be said about The Big Hunt. It had it’s ups and downs like all spots do that have been open for so many years. At the end of the day all I can say is that I spent many many hours here, had many many good times here and met many many great people here. This Big Hunt was a great bar. (more…)

Thanks to Martha Wilson for the reminder: “6:30 Big crowd this morning! This D.C. art installation will be gone tonight (Saturday), so if you’re a fan of @VP @KamalaHarris, swing by the Reflecting Pool (installation depicts “glass ceiling breakage”).” (more…)
