It’s been a while since I’ve done a PSA but this is important. Rock Creek Park is looking amazing. As a neighbor told me, you don’t have to go all the way to Shenendoah to appreciate the Fall foliage. In the next week or so though you should really take a drive or walk through the park, it is amazing. Also many of the side streets around town are equally breathtaking. Take a walk soon, you won’t be disappointed! If anyone has some favorite spots to check out the foliage around town please let us know where we can find them. I checked out many of the sidestreets in Georgetown that were incredible.

It’s been a while since I checked in on the progress of the soon to be Porter Street Residences located on Porter east of Connecticut toward Rock Creek Park. Looks like the finished product will match the rendering. Does anyone remember if these are going to be condos or apartments? I feel like someone said previously that they were going to be residences for the Chinese Embassy? Is that right?

Ed. Note: The above photo was taken after this weekend’s shooting on Upshur Street. It really saddened me how beautiful the street looked. I was thinking how this photo should be a “sweet street scene” but now is affiliated with a crime post…

“Dear PoP,

I heard there’s a pet costume contest/parade in Petworth this coming Wednesday.  Do you have any details? My dog and I are ready to show off our costumes!”

Following is the info from the organizer.  I’ll be there as a guest judge so if in anyone wants to bribe me, I’ve been dreaming of some pumpkin pie…

“Those of us on the Petworth Dogs listserv http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/PetworthDogs/ would like to invite you to the:

2009 Petworth Dog Walk Halloween
a costume celebration of dogs and owners
Wednesday, October 28, 7pm
@ Domku Restaurant
821 Upshur St NW
http://domkucafe.com

Contestants – meet at 6pm at the Clark School (7th and Alison Streets NW) to wear out your favorite pooch, before suiting them up in a great costume. From there, we’ll walk our bedazzled best friends down to Upshur Street where they’ll be judged on:

* Best Doggie Costume – the classic, dress ‘em up!
* Best Twins – Celebrating how dogs and owners can look alike
* Best Trick – Costume or not, show your dog’s skills

— We have prizes for every category!  —

The Domku patio will be the reviewing stand and the post-parade party spot.  Feel free to print out copies of our flier and take them with you when you’re out walking. When you see a dog + owner, hand them a flier and encourage them to come out as a participant or observer: http://wayan.com/files/petworth_dog_walk_2009.pdf

The flier says:

“Recent reconstruction has turned this GRAND porch-front into a neighborhood showplace! All new EVERYTHING: systems, floors, roof, walls, kitchen, baths, windows +more! 19′ wide with fully finished basement and AMAZING bonus loft/office in 2-LVL master bedroom! DEEP backyard with two car private parking! Just 4 blocks to METRO!”

More info found here and a virtual tour found here.

Wow, I wasn’t expecting the inside to look like this at all. I kinda dig the open feel. And of course I’m a huge supporter of the bay windows. What do you guys think of the reno? Does $549,000 sound reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath home?

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. I’ll open this thread every Monday and Friday. So anything good happen to you this weekend?

A couple of weeks ago I said that a Crepes Place was coming to 1736 14th Street, NW in the old Circle Boutique spot. Well I was close, it turns out Point Chaud Cafe & Crepes will be opening up there. I’m not sure if they’re affiliated with Crepes-a-Go-Go but it sounds awesome! And if that weren’t good enough another Crepes spot, Crepes on the Corner, is coming to the corner of 14th and S in the old Garden District space.

According to the Crepes on the Corner Web site:

“Coming to DC December 2009, owners Chef Vincent Bradberry and Joe Carmack of Garden District bring a simple and genuine crêperie to 14th Street, NW. Both are long time Mid-City business guys with a mindset to use local ingredients and produce.

Expect delicious crpes made fresh to order, homemade soups, salads, and a great cup of coffee. This is the place to get a healthy quick bite for lunch, an after dinner dessert crepe, and to stop by as the bars close.”

What are the odds of two crepes spots opening so close to each other?

The reader writes:

“Just saw four guys on horses going down Columbia road, near Ontario. One of them trotted on the sidewalk and the horse left a nice pile of manure behind.”

Who are these people? Isn’t there some horse show going on at the Verizon Center? Totally bizarre sighting for Columbia Road…
