4th and H Street, NE

Yesterday a reader shared word that a crab shack was coming the old Driftwood Kitchen/True Orleans space on H Street, NE. Now a tipster hears that the crab shack will likely be The Boiling Crab:

“It all began in a little Southeastern Texas town called Seadrift. With a population of just 2000, Seadrift was home to Yo’Daddy and his family of crabbers and fishermen. They labored in their boats year-round, catching oysters, crab and shrimp for the seafood industry. As toiling as the work was, every weekend the men would come home with their catch of the week to enjoy – they boiled crawfish and crabs, shucked raw oysters, grilled fresh fish – always with a beer in hand. Thanks to Colleen for sending: “there appears to be a permit and ongoing construction at the old Driftwood Kitchen/True Orleans location at 400 H Street Northeast. Driftwood Kitchen closed on New Year’s Day 2018, and the building has sat empty ever since. Word on H Street is this might be a crab shack restaurant (but don’t know for sure)!” (more…)

Thanks to Sara for passing on t pow’s tweet: “Confirmed El Centro on 14th Street (U Street Corridor) will not reopen. Note: El Centro Georgetown is currently still open for dine-in service at 50% capacity as well as curbside to-go and delivery.”

Ed. Note: I’ve emailed the company for their comment but have not yet received a reply.

El Centro’s website currently says “WE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED. VISIT US AT OUR GEORGETOWN LOCATION!”

El Centro opened up here after extensive renovations back in May 2011 (see what the space used to look before below: (more…)

Anthony asks: “any news on anafre and why the plastic is up?”

Anafre wrote on Wednesday: “We’re doing a little renovating so we’ll be closed this week. But you can still visit our sister spots @mezcalerodc and @elsoldc”

Another reader hears a little scuttlebutt about what could be coming: “it’s going to be a pizza place”?!?

STAY TUNED.

“Dear PoPville,

Hoping the community might know the official status of Acqua al 2 in Eastern Market? They had been selling grocery items earlier in the pandemic and then updated their website and posted on social media that they would be temporarily closing in late June to prepare for indoor dining in July. However, their phone line is currently not in service and friends have mentioned it looks very closed and empty from the outside. Does anyone know what’s going on? I know their sister restaurants Ghibellina and Sotto closed.”

On June 25th Acqua Al 2 posted to their Facebook:

“Acqua al 2 family, friends and neighbors: (more…)

UPDATE:

Oh my goodness. I too tried to call but the phone just rang without being picked up at 7:30pm anyway.

Tortilla Coast is, of course, “A Tex-Mex tradition on Capitol Hill since 1988”

Tortilla Coast closed their Logan Circle location at 15th and P St, NW back in 2017.

Updates when more is known.
