I thought this sincere, but funny, petition might be something the community would enjoy (and agree with) on a quiet Friday.”

“I regret to inform that the above ranked caskets represent the only apparent means of obtaining cold deli sandwiches at Wegmans DC.

I am certain, in some MBA’s spreadsheet somewhere, that this sandwich appears in a cell as “SANDWICH X1” and somehow better fits some marketing persona that’s been developed for the “on the go” DC shopper, with lower per-sf prep cost.

This is not the first Wawa to abruptly close – Adams Morgan closed after less than a year in 2020.

“Fight Club, the hit pandemic-era sandwich pop-up that operated out of Beuchert’s Saloon, is resurrecting in its own brick-and-mortar location at 633 Pennsylvania Avenue SE on May 10. Fight Club 2.0, headed up by co-owners Andrew Markert, Bart Hutchins, and Mackenzie Conway, will initially open for weekday lunch, serving up the OG pop-up menu of sandwiches and snacks that gained a cult-following during the height of the pandemic. A few weeks later, it will extend its hours and roll out its full menu with expanded offerings including a new large plate menu category, as well as a cocktail program centered around boozy punches on draft. Fight Club’s initial opening hours will be Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM for full-service dining, carryout and delivery via DoorDash, Caviar and GrubHub. (more…)

Thanks to Allison for sending: “Compliments Only sub shop wallpaper up in the Sorellina windows. I’m sad because I loved Sorellina but this is a good add to the hood!”

Compliments Only currently has a shop on 14th Street in Logan Circle and arguably has the best turkey sub in town.
