A reader reports:

“Thought I would share some recent bicycle thefts I’ve witnessed over the past 2 weeks. Both instances occurred on N street nw (in front of Espita). First on 8/31 @ 5:03pm and the second on 9/9 at 9:07am. Both times they used an angle grider to cut locks. I have heard the angle grinder on other days, but didn’t think much of it, but I am sure the same was happening. Police were called on both occasions, but seems there is not much that can be done.

Just a warning to be aware if parking a bike in this area.”

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to let you know that I went to the 11th and R st NW USPS blue mailbox and someone put adhesive in the top of the mailbox. It wasn’t extremely visible but my mail got stuck multiple times and I had to pry it off. I luckily caught this and was able to try to shove my mail in (took 4 tries) but it looks as though someone is trying to steal mail and I wanted to make sure people are aware to double check to see if their mail actually gets placed in mailboxes.”

Ed. Note: We’ve spoken about receiving mail troubles here.

Thanks to Rachel for sending the warning: “Sending you pictures of a massive hornet’s nest hanging above the sidewalk on 3rd St NE in Eckington (on the block between V and U). Super dangerous and our calls to DC’s 311 don’t seem to have helped. Spreading the word for good measure!”
