“Dear PoPville,

I am hoping to alert NoMa residents to a credit card mail theft scheme that has happened to at least five NoMa residents in the past few months.

Through Facebook and Reddit, I have corroborating stories from five separate victims that their new credit cards were stolen in the mail, activated, and then used for thousand-dollar shopping sprees at Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping to share my story/cautionary tale about this and think that my neighbors would probably want to know about it. Last night, under the influence of way too much alcohol, I (27 year old woman) decided to walk home alone from 14th street to my apartment in the logan circle area (huge mistake, I never ever do this, would not recommend ever). I was held up at gunpoint by a lone man at around 13th and N. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was on a scooter returning home a Saturday night around 10:30pm in NOMA, I stopped at an intersection to check my phone (probably shouldn’t have done that since it was late, and there weren’t many people about) and I felt a car slowing down behind me, so I turned around and the car stopped, engine still running and lights on and 4 or 5 guys jumped out of the car (more…)

From WMATA:

“Metro will expand train service to midnight, seven days a week starting Sunday, July 18. The extended operating hours are the first in a package of service improvements passed by Metro’s Board of Directors in June that will add more all-day rail service, create high-frequency bus routes and improve service across the region.

“Riders that work late, enjoy the region’s restaurants and nightlife or need to get to and from places at night will now have more flexibility with trains running longer every night,” said Metro General Manager Paul J. Wiedefeld. “As the region recovers, Metro will be there to meet the transit needs of customers and businesses in the National Capital Region.”

In addition to extending rail hours until midnight, Metro resumed late-night bus service to 2 a.m. in June on 36 routes, restored more service and improved the frequency of buses on high-demand routes. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to write in here on behalf of my dad. He told me he was in Dupont on Thursday morning at around 8:00am getting his morning Starbucks coffee when a shirtless man with a hammer approached him on the sidewalk outside the PNC bank. The man said he had just gotten out of prison and could hit him with the hammer and no one would find out. My dad said he just told the man “Ok” and walked away. He didn’t seem very shocked by the whole fiasco but I am! Stay alert people!”

“Dear PoPville,

My partner and I were driving home down North Cap near M St NE last night when that guy in the white car readers have written about in the past honked at us and yelled that our “wheel was wobbly” and we needed to pull over. It was pretty suspicious to begin with, but remembering your post about his antics made it way less stressful to blow him off and continue our ride.”

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to send out a quick alert/heads up to readers: I live in a multi-unit Condo building in NW DC (across from Malcom X Park) and all of our front doors have direct access to the outside. This morning (7/9) our neighbor text us to say someone claiming they were from the Washington Gas Company knocked on her door to say there was a gas leak in the building.

None of our other neighbors got a knock on their door from the gas company and the neighbor who did get the alert wasn’t asked to evacuate. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to put it out to the community that there was a man in Kalorama park Wednesday night who was either on a phone call or pretending to be on a phone call for the entirety of a friend’s yoga class. When we were seeming to be not paying attention or in a down dog position he was noticeably taking photos or videos of us. When this was blatantly obvious I approached him and asked if that was what he was doing, which he said yes but he only took one photo and it was because he used to do yoga and thought we were very accomplished and wanted to show a friend.
