“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to share what happened to me tonight (Thursday.) I was on Florida Ave and decided to walk home around 8pm. While I was on Rhode Island Ave near the gas station that has the Dunkin attached to it and waiting to cross the street, a man approached me and spit in my face. (more…)

From DDOT:

“he District Department of Transportation (DDOT) launched ParkDC Permits, a new, centralized system for DC residents in Residential Permit Parking (RPP) Zones and their visitors to manage visitor, temporary, home health aide, and contractor parking permits via a single online portal.

Residents and their visitors can use the portal to set up their ParkDC Permits accounts and to issue and receive permits to legally park in RPP zones. ParkDC Permits combines the Annual Visitor Parking Pass and Temporary (15 day) Parking Permits. The new system allows unlimited use by one visitor at a time and additional permits when a resident has two or more visitors. Residents in RPP Zones across all eight wards will have access to the system and visitor parking privileges. (more…)

We’ve been getting numerous reports of “big bangs” and “loud explosions” from all over the District. This is not uncommon as we approach July 4th. These are not “traditional” fireworks. They are very, very loud explosive devices. You will probably hear one in the coming weeks. They don’t always result in fire but you can see from the photo above how powerful they can be.

Jerry reported: “Big bang came from NoMa at 4:44 AM. Flames outside 100 Florida Ave NE put out quickly by 4:46 AM”

Jesse reported one earlier near Adams Morgan: “This one set off car alarms”

From the Department of Parks and Recreation:

“When the weather heats up in DC, DPR is the place to be. That’s why we’re focused on getting #BackToSummer and helping residents make the most of this long-awaited season.

Next week marks the beginning of expanded access for outdoor pools and recreation centers.

Starting Monday, June 28:

Outdoor pools will be open for a maximum of 6 days per week.

Select outdoor pools will shift operations to remain open until 8pm on weekdays. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing to encourage the community to show some love and support to the owners of Pan Am Fresh supermarket on Brown St. in Mount Pleasant due to the brazen robbery they endured on Tuesday morning. I spoke with a staff member the next day and she said the robber made a beeline for the register and twice pushed the owner down with such force that she was injured and an ambulance was necessary. This and the fact that it occurred in broad daylight is very disturbing. I live nearby and the owners are extremely kind and generous people. Not to mention their Indian cuisine is amazing and they always throw in extra food. If you’re in the area, please be sure to stop by and support this great small business.”

“Dear PoPville,

Not sure if anyone else has experienced in Dupont, but our apartment building (which just recently replaced the door) was broken into last night (Tuesday) between 11:10 and 11:22pm, and a thief not only made off with a bunch of packages across both hallways and a downstairs unit, but cut through bolted bikes in the building.
