“Dear PoPville,
I just saw the parking lady out writing tickets again, so I went and spoke to her. She told me that the green “2 hours OR a parking sticker” areas are fine to park in and no tickets are being written. But for any spots labeled “resident parking only” tickets are being written again for anyone parking there without a proper sticker. I also saw her write a ticket for someone who was parked past the last parking sign (parked too close to the corner).”

A few folks have been asking about street sweeping as we entered phase two today, thanks to DPW for clarifying the current status:
“Good morning! Currently is still suspended under Phase 2.”

Thanks to Maggie for sharing this crazy story:
“My partner lives in AdMo, and I live Glover Park, and use a visitor’s parking permit when the car is there. I usually have 0 issues, but for a period of several months in 2019 I received at least a dozen tickets on the same stretch of Calvert Street by I think the same officer. I was cited for several things, none of them accurate, including illegal spot, no permit, no visible registration sticker, etc. My car is registered, with plate and sticker, in the District. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Last night we received our first parking ticket (Shaw. On 5th street.) for a zone sticker violation since lockdown began.
We have a guest permit, we just didn’t bother using it because parking enforcement hasn’t been active lately. But they’re back apparently. Not much we can do until inspection stations catch up with their backlog etc (and I’m not about to risk a day crowded into the DMV) but just a heads up.”

In addition to driving poorly…
Thanks to David for sending last night: “I guess if you are an armored vehicle you can pretty much park wherever the heck you want. On Massachusetts Avenue eastbound at 10th NW during rush hour today around 5:15 pm in the turning lane. I guess the wedge under the wheel is there so if someone hits it it does not skid forward too far? Oh, that is right it weighs five tons…”

“Dear PoPville,
Any reports on when street sweeping is coming back? I don’t want a parking ticket and can’t seem to find it online.”
I’ve been getting tons of inquiries about the status of suspended street sweeping – rest easy – DPW tell us that it is:
“currently still suspended under phase 1.”
STAY TUNED.

“Dear PoPville,
How many emergency no parking signs do you need to cover a full block?
Example: On the 900 block of 1st St SE, there are two emergency no parking signs at the north end of the block (denoted with an “S” in the attached image) that claim they reserve all the spaces on the entire block. I was towed today from the other end of the block (the spot denoted with a C in the attached) for allegedly violating those signs. It seems nuts that a sign 150-200 feet away from my car could properly serve as notice that I can’t park there – but I don’t know what the actual threshold is.
Bonus Q: After I discovered my car was gone, I called 311 and went through the process to see if the city knew where I’d been towed to. They had no record of me being towed, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I got a ticket for parking in my driveway! It reads “obstructing sidewalk grass”. Only there is NO sidewalk. Our block is all grass no sidewalk, never has been. So, how can we be blocking a sidewalk that isn’t there?? It is just grass, how would we know here the invisible “sidewalk” should be anyway??
We have lived in this house for 7 years our neighbors for 30+ NO one has ever gotten a ticket for parking to the end of their driveway. Is parking Enforcement just looking for new problems? Where do I find the rules about this?? Is grass near the street also a sidewalk now?
Wondering if any readers now where to find the answers because I have yet to find anything that references “grass sidewalks” in DC parking code!”
