Georgia and New Hampshire Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I want to know the reasoning for putting jersey barriers on Georgia thus blocking accessible parking for the CVS. I don’t want to have to cross Georgia Avenue and I would not want to see other seniors taking their lives in their hands having to park across the street from CVS. There has not been a line down the street, the same so-called argument used by DDOT to block parking at the Safeway on Georgia and Randolph. There was no hearing that I am aware of and no public comment period. Now I hear they want to close streets to allow restaurants to shut down public space for social distancing. It seems as if when it comes to the average citizen, with DDOT you have no rights.”

Lots of folks have been asking about street sweeping since the initial suspension has expired. DPW reassures us that the suspension has been extended until April 27th. And for emergency workers who have to drive DPW says: “Suspending all enforcement but safety hazards. Blocked crosswalks, hydrants, etc.”

Should the public health emergency extend beyond April 27th – you can expect these extensions to follow as well.

A reader reported yesterday:

“Parking enforcement vehicle this morning [Monday] around 7:40am on the problematic M Street bike lane in the merge area (the most dangerous) on the approach to 20th St NW.

Oh yeah – nobody in the car – to even tell them to move the heck out!

Can I get $150 from DC? Haaaaaaaaaa”

“Dear PoPville,

Happy first week of street cleaning! This whole entire side of Wallach Place NW is ticketed all the way down the block. Barely anyone remembers the first week until you come back and see that pink slip.”

Ed. Note: Fortunately those are warning tickets but the real thing is coming soon. From DPW:

“DPW will issue warnings between Monday, March 2 and Friday, March 6, to vehicles parked during the sweeping periods. After March 6, violators will be subject to $45 fines.”
