Heads Up For Saturday’s Fourth of July Street Closures

“On Saturday, July 4, 2020, Fourth of July related activity, along with First Amendment demonstrations, will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with these events, there will be extensive street closures that motorists should take into consideration.

The following streets will be closed beginning at 6:00 p.m. on July 3, 2020 to 11:59 p.m. on July 4, 2020:

Independence Avenue, SW from 17th Street and Ohio Drive, SW
23rd Street, NW from Constitution Avenue, NW to Memorial Bridge
Henry Bacon Drive from Constitution Avenue, NW to Memorial Circle

The following streets will be posted as Emergency No Parking from approximately 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. and closed to vehicular traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.:

Theodore Roosevelt Bridge (TR Bridge) Inbound to Constitution Avenue; all traffic will be diverted to northbound South Potomac River Freeway
Henry Bacon Drive, NW from Constitution Avenue to Lincoln Memorial Circle, NW
Constitution Avenue from 9th Street to 23rd Street, NW
Arlington Memorial Bridge (to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic)
Southbound Rock Creek Parkway will be closed at Virginia Avenue, NW
Maine Avenue, SW will be closed at I-395 to all westbound traffic
Access to East Potomac Park from I-395 will be by National Park Service permit only
The northbound HOV lanes of the 14th Street Bridge will be diverted to eastbound I-395. The northbound main lanes of the 14th Street Bridge will also be diverted to eastbound I-395.

The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 11:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.:

7th Street, NW from E Street to Independence Avenue, SW
6th Street, NW from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
5th Street, NW from E Street to Indiana Avenue, NW
4th Street, NW from E Street to Independence Avenue, SW
D Street from 3rd Street to 9th Street, NW
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 3rd Street to 9th Street, NW
Constitution Avenue, NW from 3rd Street to 9th Street, NW
Indiana Avenue, NW from 3rd Street to 7th Street, NW
9th Street Tunnel

The 3rd Street Tunnel will remain open for travel into and out of the city.

Motorists are reminded that stopping or standing is prohibited on any city streets or roadways to observe the fireworks. Motorists shall expect to be towed if found in violation.

Please visit https://www.wmata.com/ for alternative public transportation options into and out of the city, as well as any metro closures.

National Mall Public Entry Access points on July 4 will open at 1:00 p.m. and will remain open until 9:00 p.m. There may be changes to access points on the day of the event to enhance security:

Constitution Avenue NW at 20th Street NW
Constitution Avenue NW between 23rd Street NW and Henry Bacon Drive NW
17th Street NW between Constitution Avenue NW and Independence Avenue SW (near the World War II Memorial)
East Basin Drive just south of the Jefferson Memorial (visitors will not be able to access the National Mall from here)

The area from 17th Street to the Lincoln Memorial and between Constitution Avenue NW to Independence Avenue SW will be a secure area on July 4. Access will be via four entry points, and visitors will be subject to a bag check upon entering the secure area. All coolers, backpacks, packages, and persons will be subject to inspection.

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

The public should expect parking restrictions along the street and should follow the posted emergency no parking signage. All vehicles that are parked in violation of the emergency no parking signs will be towed.
