Wait a second, how am I only hearing about Yang Market [138 U St NE] now?!?!? Well better late than never cause this sandwich looks freaking amazing.

“Sammys the size of your head are coming to @yangmarketne & they are insanely delish.”

Someone please report back on if they are as delicious as they look!!

1020 19th Street, NW just north of K Street

I’m not wasting any more beer by pouring it out for 19th Street. No more! Oy this has been a horrible 24 hours. Thanks to a reader for sending:

“I got news this morning from the owner that my beloved downtown breakfast and lunch spot is permanently closing as of today. Café Carvy at 19th and K St was THE office go-to for breakfast sandwiches, the best iced coffee (with coffee ice cubes!), and fresh carved turkey and roast beef for lunch. Always a great value and really friendly service. My officemates and I are extremely devastated.”

Cafe Carvy opened in the old Spice Indian Bistro space back in 2012.

Well all the Wawa excitement has me thinking about fast casual (back in my day we called it fast food grumble grumble) so please indulge me. There are way too many today to do a poll so let’s just give our answer in the comments. I’ll list as many as I can think of here – but if (when I surely) leave some out please do include them in the comments. I’m thinking for lunch. Ok here goes, Sweetgreen, Chopt, Roti, Taylor Gourmet, A. Litteri, Buredo, Chipotle, Wiseguys Pizza, District Taco, Takorean, Cava Grill, Nando’s Peri Peri, Chix, SeoulSpice, Eatsa, Wiseguys NY Pizza, Ben’s Chili Bowl, Sundevich, Chaia, Merzi… God, we really do have a ton of options, anyway you get the idea. Where’s your favorite fast casual lunch spot? And remember today’s the last day for Pedro and Vinny’s Burrito Cart on K Street.

pedro and vinny closing

A reader reports:

“Pedro and Vinny’s, a burrito cart on 15th and K, is closing next week. John and his burritos have been a long-time downtown DC institution. I, and a lot of his other loyal customers, are pretty bummed by this. The last day is next friday (5/19). The owner John and his wife have decided to move to Wilmington, North Carolina.”
