Yesterday the Post reported:

“On Monday, the charitable arm affiliated with Chick-fil-A revealed that it had overhauled its donation strategy and had stopped giving money to several organizations — donations that had long angered LGBTQ activists.”

From the Chick fil A Foundation:

“Starting in 2020, the Chick-fil-A Foundation is introducing a more focused giving approach to provide additional clarity and impact with the causes it supports. Staying true to its mission of nourishing the potential in every child, the Chick-fil-A Foundation will deepen its giving to a smaller number of organizations working exclusively in the areas of education, homelessness and hunger.

Ed. Note: I realize that there have been numerous crime posts these last few days but I can’t pretend what is happening is not happening. I also don’t think we should normalize these events and pretend this is just part of “city living”. These events are horrible and must not be accepted as “normal”. One has every right to be angry and upset that they are happening. One should also recognize that solutions to these deep seated issues are not easy. Simply saying lock them up and throw away the key is not the answer. Doing nothing is not the answer either. If advocating for long term solutions there must also be interim actions to stem the violence that we are seeing. Hopefully there are those who will not pander but will work on genuine solutions that begin to ameliorate what we are seeing far too often.

“Three gay men were treated and released from a local hospital following a Halloween night attack on the 1400 block of P Street, N.W., in which an unidentified attacker “used homophobic language” while assaulting the men, according to a police report and a Facebook account of the incident by one of the victims. “I was going to drop in there on Friday after a birthday party, when I got there, they were closed before midnight. Sunday evening came, and they were still closed. It was odd. I went up to the door and they had a sign that said “Closed Gone Fishing”. I spoke with someone who works there that said they got closed down in a similar way as JRs with the liquor license expiring. I am told they closed on Wednesday and had been operating for some amount of time without a current liquor license. The person I spoke with said they may have to reapply for a liquor license from scratch because the amount of time that lapsed.” (more…)

Arrest Made in Monday Afternoon Assault on a Man with a Bicycle “investigating this offense as potentially being motivated by hate or bias”

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Bicycle) offense that occurred on Monday, June 24, 2019, in the 1100 block of 19th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 2:20 pm, the suspect and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation at the listed location. During the altercation, the suspect threatened the victim, struck the victim with a bicycle and made homophobic slurs towards the victim. (more…)

“UPDATE: DC Police LGBT Liaison Unit just visited us to see how we are doing. They confirmed 3 juveniles and 1 adult were arrested.

My boyfriend and I were assaulted last night [Sunday] a few blocks from Nellie’s for just talking closely on the sidewalk. It started with homophobic slurs and eventually there was a mob of 15 guys on him. I was powerless and all I could do was try to protect him. His phone is stolen, they knocked out a good part of his front tooth, and he had to get stitches for his lip. He doesn’t have insurance and we’re not sure how he’s going pay for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.”
