Rebecca recounts a helluva a tale last night around 7:30pm:

“Just happened by a blazing balcony fire on 16th St across from Meridian Hill Park. Another bystander and I came across the fire at the same time. He immediately sprinted around the block and appeared ON THE BALCONY spraying a fire extinguisher. Hero!!!”

P. adds: “He took the fire extinguisher from my hands and we both ran to the balcony (I was at the balcony door until he yelled to empty the place). It was my neighbor’s home.”

“Here’s a clip of him going after the flames with the fire extinguisher” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m in search of a Good Samaritan who helped me when my car broke down in Petworth earlier today (Tuesday), and hoping you can help connect us so I can return items he lent me to get my car running again.

At around 11 a.m. today (Tuesday April 13), a man saw that the hood of my red Jeep was erupting steam and brought me a container of water and a rag before going back inside. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

On Sunday afternoon around 4pm, I was doing a 3 point turn and accidentally backed into a parked car. I wasn’t able to get out of my car on the spot so I pulled my car around to park and write a note, and by then, the other driver had returned and was already driving off! (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Last night I was picking up my sick dog from Friendship Hospital, it was 1:30 am called a taxi (yellow cab) no cars, I call Uber no cars, I was shaking because was cold, two people were in their vehicles waiting to pick their dogs, said a prayer and ask one of them to take me home in Adams Morgan, this angel said yes and got me home safe at 2:00 am, his name Jackson, God bless him. He lives in Shaw and his dog is a beautiful husky, Thank You

“Dear PoPville,

Tonight (Friday) around 7:15 my fiancé and I went to go grab a bite at cinder bbq (8th and Upshur St, NW.) Our puppy Lucy knocked over an easel which terrified her which caused her to bolt and slip out of her harness. Before our eyes Lucy was sprinting up upshur street. The entire community of people out around 7:15pm shouted, stopped cars, and unquestionably saved Lucy from a very terrible incident. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Monday, March 1, I jumped into the Potomac River to save my dog Enzo, who had chased some geese and didn’t stop at the edge (he may not have seen it well, as he has only one eye). My nephew and I were walking him and we were on the grassy stretch near the Kennedy Center, where the river’s walls are steep and high and I couldn’t find anywhere nearby to direct my dog to take refuge or where I could clamber down to get him. I was in a panic. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Good Samaritan Alert: ER Doc named Paul on the Chain Bridge on Saturday March 6th around 1pm

On Saturday March 6th at about 1pm, I had just crossed Chain Bridge when I saw a car with his flashers on and the driver out and using his phone in the Glebe Road approach to the bridge from Virginia. There was a person crumpled in a heap on the ground in front of his car. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I had a missed connection at Trader Joes on Sunday night (1/3) and I’m hoping to find him. I’d lost my wallet and was trying to figure out what to do at the register. A guy in his 20’s with long brown hair and a tan coat saw what was happening, came up, and offered several times to pay for my groceries. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am wondering if the community knows where/when there are holiday toy drives in the dc area?”

From Boundary Stone (116 Rhode Island Ave, NW):

“Come see us one more time!

Our Annual Toy Drive with Atlas Brew Works is needed more than ever this year! We will open our doors on DEC 16th & 17th from 4pm-7pm. ~ Bring an unwrapped toy and we will give you a free beer!

You can’t drink it here but you CAN take it home!”

From DC Fire & EMS: “Don’t forget that all of #DCsBravest firehouses are drop off points for @ToysforTots_DC. We accept new and unwrapped toys. No toy that can be construed as a weapon will be accepted.”

Please add other events you know of in the comments – thanks!
