Created by Richie Brandenburg, best known as the creator of Union Market, Rubén García, the former longtime creative director of José Andrés Group, and Tishman Speyer, The Square represents the next generation of food halls and features an evolutionary business model––focused on increased efficiencies, a shared revenue model between The Square and its chef partners, and economies of scale.
The backbone of The Square is a state-of-the-art, subterranean commissary kitchen featuring a communal bakery, butchery, prep kitchens, central ordering system, and liquor purchasing power. Read More

Joining the already popular restaurants Dear Sushi and Beloved BBQ—plus the buzzy bar Hiya Izakaya—the fast-casual component of the food hall will at first sell salads, fried-chicken sandwiches, sushi rolls and ramen in addition to a robust coffee and tea program. Down the line, a Japanese bakery opening earlier and featuring mochi donuts and soft serve will help locals and tourists awake to something sweet. From a press release:
“Too many chefs in the kitchen,” and “Don’t work with family,” are two warnings Chef Jazmine and Chef Trinna Moore decided not to heed when this mother-daughter team started District Boards. The newest addition to miXt Food Hall, this locally-sourced charcuterie board company is all about connection. Serving up charcuterie boards for every palate, diet, and size, the DC locals behind District Boards are promising to make gathering effortless.
Chef Jazmine Moore grew up in the restaurant business thanks to Co-Owner and mom, Chef Trinna Moore. “I started going to restaurant opening parties for my mom’s places when I was five years old. Of course I went to culinary school!” says Chef Jazmine. Trinna was a vegan restaurateur, “before it was cool,” says Jazmine, “opening places all around the country.” Having worked in the industry her entire life, Jazmine opened her own catering company in 2017. Out of that company, District Boards formed and she asked mom to join.
We realized there was a need for a more effortless gathering experience. “People are going to parties with chips and salsa and a six-pack. For leff effort, why not bring a chef-curated charcuterie board?” asks Chef Trinna. In addition to their variety of boards including vegan, paleo, pescatarian and gluten-free options, District Board serves up mocktails ready to add to or be enjoyed as is. You can also grab an “add-on” like their best-selling vegan artichoke dip or caviar.
